My partner and I have eaten here three times, dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea. Each time it was terrible. Dinner was full of mismatched flavours and tough stringy meat. Bill all mixed up, poor service, overpriced. Afternoon tea, poor quality coffee, my cinnamon toast had garlic butter on it! My partner complained but the staff was off-hand and rude, just not interested in constructive criticism. A friend went recently and was disgusted with his meal. The "excellent" reviews seem to be fakes to us. Stay away.
We went tonight to BPO for our one year anniversary. We weren't kept waiting for our booked table, and all the food was brought out in a timely fashion. The food for the main part was excellent, although we found that the vegetables that the waiter suggested we get was a good idea, as the mains were fairly small.
I've been to excellent rated restaurants before, and this whilst not as good, was definitely up there. I don't know why other people's reviews here have been less than complimentary. We'll definitely be back.
Very disappointing. Basically overpriced and overhyped. My meal was tough and stringy and the vegetables grey and unappealing. I have had much better bistro meals and cheaper. Perhaps a bad night?
Great ambience with live music and open fire place. Waiters very attentive and pleasant but limited English made them hard to understand, slow & they got things wrong (ordered a Crown Lager and get a large jug of cream). Food was expensive, very, very ordinary, didn't come as described, and items on the "Specials" menu were not available. With corkage $6/ bottle not $3.50 per person.
We ate here for the first time on a Friday night 6.30pm and we both loved it. Will be back again. Food was really good: steak with mushroom sauce was divine and steak with balsamic sauce and foi gra? was good too. Cooked perfectly and timing was quick. Creme brulee was outstanding! coffees were very good too.
Couldn't fault the service one bit and we were impressed with the choice of our red wine being decanted. Price is a little high but the ambience, (we were right near the fire), building and food nearly justify it.
BPO's main positive is that it definitely offers a pleasant setting for an intimate dinner. However I was not exactly blown away by the food. My partner and I both ordered the steak ($30) and so we weren't thrilled when our plates came out with just a steak on it and nothing else. Still if it had been an amazing steak we wouldn't have felt cheated...but it wasn't needless to say. Being students we decided to not order dessert and instead bought a big bucket of connoisseur cookies and ice cream on the way home - the dessert that never disappoints!
One of my worst dining experiences I will never go again. The restaurant was not busy. Tables are lighted by candles and it's difficult to read the menu and see what you are eating. It's cold and you have to dine in your jacket. Firstly we were given incorrect discriptions of the meals and based on this we ordered. We were served nothing like what we ordered. The food is very overpriced for what is presented, two entrees and two mains and $150 later we were very disappointed.
Response from Management:
We are sorry you had a bad dining experience at our restaurant, but to our defence all the meals were in the menu including the specials with a full descrition, and yes your bill was $149.00 but $27.00 of that was for wine. If you had told us that the meals were not the ones ordered we certainly would have put this right for you.
Me and my family absolutely loved our experience at BPO, we have been to the three establishments for a long time now and so much as nothing has ever gone wrong. The food was lovely, ambience, service and value was great. Our dining experience was perfect. I am definitely coming back for more.
Avoid like the plague. Friends recommended we try it. I read the mixed reviews on this site but ventured forth anyhow, though with not inconsiderable trepidation. All my fears were founded. We booked a table for four at 8 pm. When we arrived we were told our table would be ready in five to ten minutes. After ten minutes of no action, we asked "we booked a table, what's the problem"? "Well nobody told me", was the manager's response. After 45 minutes at the bar, we left and went to Tables at Pymble for their typical excellent food and service. I've rated the food etc as a 5 because we never got to try it.
