Well it appears that the universally accepted adage that you get what you pay for doesn't apply here. My salt and pepper squid was gritty, tough, stingy, grossly overpriced even if it was to be fantastic, and 40 minutes in the making. Another sad example of 'location, location, location'. Shame that they don't honour such a gift by serving top quality, innovative and fresh seafood. Big shame, one for the tourists I think!

What happened? This was our favourite breakfast location. The meals were large and tasty. The service was perfect. We don't have many boxes that need ticking. But this morning we went and the menus were in a plastic sleeve and all of our favourites were gone. None of the usual wait staff were there. We have never asked for water before becuase they always bring it. Today nothing. The meals were half the size as previous times. And my wife's eggs were delivered wrong to start with, then replaced with incredibly salty scambled eggs. Has this place just changed hands?

Dined here for lunch yesterday and was pretty disappointed. It was a very cold day, and waitress asked us to move to another seat where it will be warmer. The other bench was even more exposed but she just wanted us to move so that the whole bench was free for another group.

We had a bowl of prawns to start, They were still frozen and watery. The bowl looked like good value, until we realised it was stuffed with mixed leaves. Ended up costing about $3 per medium sized and frozen prawn.

Boyfriend ordered the chowder based on waiter's recommendation. It tasted like a corn and vegetable soup and had only 5 pieces of seafood, some mussels and octopus. Was expecting a thick soup with scallops, prawns, fish. Not a tasteless vegetable soup with off-cuts of fish.

I had the Perch grilled, portion of fish was tiny and it was over priced ($34) but tasty. Even worse we were over charged for the already over priced meal and they didn't seem very fussed. I don't think we paid for the service or the food so guess we paid for the location.

Ate here yesterday with my husband and three year old niece. Bill was $38.00 for grilled perch and salad and child's portion of chips and sausage. We only drink tap water.

This restaurant has a solid monopoly and as such should be the best around sadly it's dropped the ball due to complacency. The service was slow, not enough staff on to cope with the amount of patrons. The food was ok but very overpriced, we only ate there as my niece wanted sausage, if Bertoni's did sausage and chips we wouldn't have bothered.

The outside eating area tables are absolutely filthy with a number of years worth of food stuck in the gaps and it's been a long time since they were hosed down with a jet wash!

Come on Bottom of Harbour where's your passion gone?

Over-priced under-quality fish and chips. Even saw the server drop his serving tongs on to the filthy floor only to pick them up and keep using them to serve the food into the cardboard take-away containers. Avoid.

Bottom of the harbour sums it up. Overpriced. Have had much better chips.

Queuing to order and waiting for it to be cooked is something of a ritual for frequenters of this Balmoral Beach institution. It's one of the busiest fish & chip shops you'll ever see, and they charge based on their solid monopoly. Still, it's done well, and in a beautiful location. It does make you realise what it is to be a seagull however. All those people pacing expectantly in front of tons of fish & chips, just waiting for their morsel to be thrown to them.

I recently had Fish and Chips her combined with a Caesar salad it made for an overall flavourless meal they I wish I hadn't eaten. The service is friendly but particularly slow, 20 - 30 minutes for take away. The place really appears to be trading solely on location. If you really want fish and chips at Balmoral Beach I recommend driving off to get a take away elsewhere and bringing it down the beach.

How dare they charge a public holiday surcharge for a take-away burger and drink. I work in the area and was desperate for a quick meal on N Y's day. The burger was $9.95 to begin with and $4 for a bottle of Ginger Beer, then to be hit with and additional 10% was outrageous. Needless to say I went hungry.
