Recently re-opened Bistro offers excellent $10 lunches and for a few more bucks you can get great quality dinner for a resonable price. The bar has also updated its wine list meaning most of the reds are now drinkable. Rest of the pub is being renovated bit by bit so try this place before it becomes another 'trendy' Newtown bar!

Went there for steak night Sunday night - we noticed that they 'pre cook' the steaks, presumably to save time. The steak itself was mediocre though the cost was reasonable. Overall, however the fact about the way they cook the steaks is rather nasty I have to say and thus will not be returning.

I agree with the favourable comments below. I've eaten at the Botany View quite a few times. Most of the meals I've had there have been delicious. It's difficult to beat their rump steak plus salad, mash and sauce for $10. The serving sizes at the Botany View are very generous and the chef clearly knows what he's doing in the kitchen. It's rapidly become one of my regular haunts in Newtown.

This is my local so I've got a soft spot for it. The food is traditional cheap pub grub - cheap and massive portions, I often get one to share with my boyfriend and it's enough. The average price is about $8 - basic meals (steak, chicken snitzel, spag bol) are $5, additionals (vegetables, salad, chips) are $2 each. Apart from that is the higher level meals such as barramundi, Thai salad, etc. The pub itself is great, there's a lot of live bands, pokies are kept isolated out in the back room and there's a lovely courtyard upstairs for parties.

Noteworthy portions, other than that, pretty normal pub fare. Had the $5 steak (and with vegetables and sauce) works out to be $10. If you're looking for something 'safe', then you'll probably enjoy it. The comments below seem slightly exaggerated.

What a find! I wasn't sure whether I should let you know about this pub. The food is unreal. Really great value. Huge servings and good variety, great hidden courtyard, country bands on sundays. Lots of different kinds of beer and fun staff.

Is a great cheap meal in newtown - fantastic for a group of friends looking for a relaxed meal. The portions are enormous and excellent value.
