I have been here a couple of times and each time it gets better, I have done celebrations there as well as luncheons and each time have enjoyed the experience.
Went here for an engagement and couldn't believe how bad the food was. We had fish for the main and I felt ill after eating there! I couldn't eat anything else for the rest of the night. Not sure if the restaurant area has better food (not game enough to try) but I wouldn't be going there for a function! Service was rude - getting a drink from the wait staff seemed like a huge struggle for them.
This Place Is Fantastic!!!! I'm really shocked to see these bad comments. I've been here so many times with my family and enjoyed it so so much. I'm Even Getting Married There In A Few Months!!! Bill is a lovely man and my favourite waiter is bobby, I honestly don't understand what is wrong with people! Is it the price that makes you say these things?
Go to the pub then and eat a 10 dollar lunch, it makes me sick !!! Botany Bay Seafood is Known for only ordering the finest food and if they DO NOT receive that they send it back to the suppliers. I only have great things to say about this place and quality takes time.
This used to be one of my favorite seafood restaurants in Sydney and have eaten here many times, however, the last time we went about a month ago, they had changed their head chef and I was very disappointed. No more scampi on their menu which was one of my favorites. The seafood platters used to be awesome with a great selection but this time they just filled in all the gaps with any bits of seafood they had left. I wish the old chef would return as I can really notice the difference and unfortunately, I won't return now.
Was taken here for dinner last night with my wife for my birthday. Service was absolutely amazing. A mixture of different aged waiters and waitresses. All were efficient, more than willing to help, courteous and even humorous. 1 chap even played "Happy Birthday" on the harmonica for the table next to us. Upon being greeted, 2 waiters showed us to our table, pulled out our chairs, took our jackets, hung them on the chairs, prepared our napkins and laid them accross our laps for us.
We were given menus promptly. For entrees we both had the seafood chowder. The soup itself was smooth, creamy and just perfect. The seafood in it was cooked perfect also. All of it was juicy and tender with not 1 bit of it being rubbery. For the main, we had the Hot and Cold Platter. An assortment of fresh massive king prawns, fresh oysters, smoked salmon, crab, lobster mornay, oysters mornay, and an assortment of crumbed and battered deep fried seafood, chips and fruit. There was so much food there, we should have skipped the entrees and garlic bread.
For desserts, I had the ice cream/sorbet (vanilla, passion fruit and lemon) and a macciato, and my wife had the creme caramel. The desserts were quite good, however, nothing overly outstanding or memorable. All up, it came to a bit under $200. A fantastic dining experience. Food was good, ambience very comfortable and service is definitely one of the best I have been given, absolutely faultless. I'll definitely be back!
After reading Pietra's comment I felt compelled to write in. I attended the Botany Bay Seafood Restaurant and had exactly the same experience. It makes me wonder if the staffs deliberately do not tell the client that it is set menu. I was horrified at the lobster mornay. No one on my table could eat it. We were told that it would be a while before we received our main meal.
When we discussed why we possibly had to wait after being told that everything was pre organised (we asked for lobster with no cheese and they told us that everything is pre made so we were stuck) we figured it out after we got the food. The lobster all members of my family received was not one whole lobster but little bits and pieces with cream cheese covering it.
It makes me wonder if the waiters of this restaurant were collecting bits and pieces from other people after they had finished and placed it in the lobster shells and then served it to its next customers. I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS PLACE. DISGUSTING.
Service was great. We had two kids and we asked them to serve our food as quickly as possible so that the kids don't get restless and they did! I thought the grilled prawns for the entree` was very little but overall the food was okay.
You expect excellent food when going to a restaurant specialising in seafood, however, I could have cooked my whiting better at home. I also cannot understand why they serve chips with almost every meal. If I wanted chips then I would go to a club.
The food was not good and it tasted like rubber. Next time I would order a red meat dish to avoid disappointment.Very average food indeed. Luckily the waiters were outgoing and friendly which only just made up for it. One of the waiters played a happy birthday song on the harmonica for my friends birthday. That was funny.
I booked for Mother's day lunch here and was not advised it was going to be set menu. When we arrived and sat down the waiter (although quite polite) informed us that we would have been told that it was set menu when we booked. No one told me as I was planning on eating here due to their seafood platters.
The entree option was OK, however, the main meal was recycled rice with lobster mornay. The lobster was drenched in cream cheese that my family was sick for two nights. When it came to coffee time I asked if we could at least have a cappuccino due to the fact that we were not informed about the set menu.
The waitress said no that they will not be making cappuccino's today. I looked over to other tables and somehow they had cappuccinos. Very disappointed, especially as it was meant to be Mothers Day. I felt sorry for my mother who ate nothing.
The service at this restaurant is appalling!! We went for a birthday dinner at 8pm, ordered 2 seafood platters and we didn't end up eating until 10:30pm!! 2 and a half hours to feed a table of 4! The staff were also extremely rude and not accommodating in the slightest. The seafood was half decent but I would never go back here!
