The thing to remember, this is a pub! Its not table service and it is pub drinks. The bonus to this is you don't have to work out the bill! Its wine list for a pub is quite adequate, and I noticed tonight an extensive cider menu. What is not typically pub, is the food. I have eaten here many many times since the bistro opened. It is very very good quality retaurant food at reasonable prices for what you get.
Unfortunately, it can get very busy as the word has spread. But I have never had to wait too long, and the staff have always been gracious. I have to say I'll Be back yet again!

We'd heard the food was good so dropped in on a Friday night. The pub is exactly that "a pub", so we were very surprised at the choices on their blackboard menu. We were even more surprised by the quality of the food. Massaman beef was as good as I've ever had and the king prawns were excellent.
It was very noisy and crowded, and the prices were not cheap, but the food was so good, I'll definitely be back.

Too right their pork belly is listed as a specialty - it was to-die-for. The other three in our group had burgers, which were nice but nothing to write home about. The sticky date pud was amazing.

This place is a cut above any pub bistro in the inner west. A gazillion food choices with plenty of veg options, and every plate is bursting with food and colour. Try the corned beef in winter, and whatever the season, the sticky date pudding for dessert. Literally drowning in butterscotch sauce and sweating with fresh dates.
You order your food downstairs and take a table upstairs. It's basically self-service but it works. It's a really nice place for a homely dinner when you're done to death with Thai in Newtown.

If you're going for a beer its not a bad place, if you're going for food in the back its a nightmare. The service is terrible.
We ordered food and one of the orders had been forgotten, let the staff know and they assured us it was coming, 30 minutes later asked again and they admitted they had forgotten to put the order through again and they would bring it asap.
Another 30 minutes and asked again, and same excuse! they had forgotten to put the order through again! spoke to the kitchen staff who rather than apologise just barked what did you order and then threw a piece of meat for it on the grill and said go and sit down. 30 minutes later had to go back again. The kitchen staff this time had forgotten what he was doing so didn't bother continuing with the dish. After being told 4 times and 2 hours later finally managed to get the meal.
After my guests watched me eat we left. They has the worst organised kitchen I have ever come across and rude disinterested staff.

Really enjoyed the food and the renovations to the restaurant. Be warned, need to go early otherwise takes far too long for your meal if you go on a busy night. Otherwise definitely worth a visit.

I enjoyed the food at the botany view, the standard is higher than your average pub meal and worth a few extra dollars, I had the fillet with spinach and sweet potato and my friend the seafood Quesadilla, both restaurant quality dishes. The dining area could do with some soft furnishings to soften the echo factor but the service was excellent at the bar and the kitchen and I would certainly eat here again.

Probably one of the better pubs to eat at in the area - the food here is good, quite an extensive menu, and the room upstairs is really nice. I love the big tables, great for big groups. The food can sometimes be a bit too fussy, and it's not great value for money, but generally I quite like the place.

The food is very very good for a pub. But we made a last minute booking for 9 people for a birthday. It was a Wednesday night and when we went upstairs it was a 'madhouse'. There were about 10 screaming kids and a large table of parents. Because the room is cavernous, the noise was deafening. We ended up going downstairs to the picnic tables beside the kitchen. It saved the night! Not much service to speak of.
I have no problem with the kids and noise really. I assume they were regulars. It just would have been good to know the deal prior so we could have made a choice.

Think we got them on a bad day. While ordering at the kitchen was told to hurry up as they were closing for a break when the bar staff had told me they were open all day. Ordered a beef burger and the rump steak.
After 30 minutes or so went to ask how much longer for the food, to be told they had overcooked the steak and were making another (Nothing on the grill)
When finally ready the steak was cooked as asked and quite nice.
The beef burger was another story. It appeared to be a pre cooked reheated pattie that would have more reason to be on an ice hockey field than a plate, temp not far different either.
Will give them the benefit of the doubt for another try at a busier time.
Not impressed tho.
