We have enjoyed Borruso's pizza for quite awhile, (particularly having them delivered after a bad day is manna from heaven) and recently went to the restaurant for dinner. The pasta was excellent and hubby was impressed by the selection available. Highly recommend it even on a "school night" as they serve you quickly if you want.
We come here regularly on Friday nights, always bringing a bottle of red. The food is simple but good. The pizzas are delicious, pasta yum and salads nice and fresh, much like a home made salad. Only thing I would like to see on the menu is mussels, then it would make it a Northside family version of one of my old favourites, Bondi Beach institution Gelbison.
Service is fantastic, always genuine and very friendly, I don't think I have come across one staff member who didn't seem pleased to be working there. So I take my hat off to the owners, they are obviously good to them, that said, the happy vibe from the staff rubs off on the patrons!
We have 2 young children and the restaurant caters perfectly for them. The other week when the restaurant was completely full I looked around and I think out of about 30 tables I could count only 1 without kids on them! So I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic evening but that's not what this place is about, it's about good food, good friends having a good time and service with a smile.
We used to live in this area and would visit this place often, before it expanded. It was such a nice place, relaxed and always good food. We went back a couple of weeks ago to discover a very different place. The senior staffs looked stressed out, not friendly anymore, teenagers doing the cooking and ordering. And the pizza, just not the same as before, a real shame.
Response from Management:
So sorry we disappointed you. As we said before we strive for continuous improvement so I would love to speak with you about your experience. All feedback is welcome and only if we know where we went wrong can we change it. Please contact me via our website on www.borrusos.com so we can have a chat!
Our first time here and I've got to say, we've found our new second home! I've got to admit, we are a bit snobby when it comes to eating out, choosing Tetsuyas, Sake, Quay and the likes, so it makes it really tough when trying to find a good blend between great food and a relaxed atmosphere in which Miss 10 and Mr8 will feel comfortable/relaxed.
On top of that, we also have the challenge of me being a bit of a carb-a-phobe and the kids being carb-freaks. So choosing to visit a pizza place was a little risk, but this place nailed it! Why?
Service: fantastic, the young lass and two south african chaps that seat and served us, were just wonderful. Polite, friendly, happy, genuine, and of course, attentive without being intrusive.
Food: top marks, given I'm a carb-a-phobe and I ate the whole pizza, it's got to have been outstanding! I had the tandoori chicken, hubby had the 'all in', kids had 'meat lovers' and 'chicken bacon' and we all shared a caramelised onion and feta starter. YUP, we had way too much but they came to the table and offered to pack up the two remaining pizzas for us to take home.
We were all raving about the taste factor, heaps of flavour going on, not those ones with sparse toppings, or those with pre-packaged toppings that make you feel bloated for days. Fresh herbs were the order of the day and you can watch them making the whole thing in front of you.
Atmosphere: for a Weds night we were pleasantly surprised by the gentle buzz of conversation [from other tables] and cooking around us. A really nice relaxing atmosphere and an instant wind-down from a hectic day in the office [for me!].
Value: Ok, so I rated it 10/10 for a couple of reasons. One, that I used the eatability offer so got it a decent discount, it's what lured us in. But two, because despite generally feeling $16-22 is a lot for a pizza, this place had everything else going for it that makes it worth the extra, after all, Dominos/Pizza Hut is the McDonalds of pizza, and this place is waaaay above those.
The waiter tells me they've just had a new oven installed, and whilst I can't compare to any previous experience, I would recommend that any of those pizza-loving naysayers, go try it again.
All in all, a truly enjoyable night and I'd recommend to all families and groups of friends looking for great casual food and a relaxed catch up with a vino or two.
Who wouldn't like this place? those seeking an intimate fine-dining experience.
Have fun! and thanks Borruso's, we'll be back. Soon.
I moved to the Lower North Shore from the Eastern Suburbs a year ago and had been looking for a great local, casual pizza place. A friend recommended Borruso's and I haven't looked back. I've been around half a dozen times and every time has been great. (My favourite pizza is with prawns and chorizo sausages). Borruso's is up there with the top pizza casual joints.
The pizzas are generous with toppings but not overly topped/heavy. The quality of toppings are great (contrary to the reviewer's strange comments two posts below). The menu is sufficiently creative to interest those after a 'gourmet experience' whilst having staple pizza choices too.
The base of the pizza and dough are not too thick, not too thin and the wood fire oven cooks them perfectly. They also provide a tri-dish plate of chilli oil, parmesan cheese and garlic oil to add more zing to your pizza if you so desire!
The drinks are well priced and the desserts very tasty too. Tiramisu serving very generous and could feed two easily. Service is friendly and attentive. Whilst servers are young they add to the casual vibe and are eager to please.
Go try Borruso's, especially with the Eatability deal Mon - Thurs it's great value.
I have been going to Burrusos for a number of years and have to say I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant. I'm not sure what happened with the last reviewer. The gluten free pizzas taste pretty much identical to their regular pizzas, both of which are fabulous. The GF pasta I haven't got to yet, I just can't go past the no name brand pizza.
I have taken a number of guests to this restaurant and everyone asks to go back on return to Sydney. Keep up the great work Burussos!
I've been to Borrusso's once for dinner now after getting co-erced by some friends and I must say that it's not exactly what I expected, the ingredients they use seem to be of the lowest quality (See the spam like ham on the Reggie? pizza) to the perfectly cubed 'chicken' chunks, the pre-cooked and frozen seafood and the colour of the neon Tandoori chicken. I struggle to think how this place can even begin to call themselves "Authentic Italian".
The service is very hit and miss and it seem the place is run by 15-19 year old children who couldn't care less. Although I will say the owner/manager tries to take care of any worries he seems far too stressed out and it gives the whole place this awkward atmosphere.
The pasta's although our table did not order anyway looked appalling. Soggy and naff like they came out of a can or something. Their saving grace must be the fact that they do take a lot of care to families and the kids seem to enjoy themselves, in saying that you'd be better off ordering Pizza Hut.
In a place like Sydney where there is so much competition especially among tratorrias I would highly recommend people go elsewhere where they will almost certainly find better taste, price, service and atmosphere.
Response from Management:
Dear EricaWA,
Wow that stung! You must have had a terrible experience at Borruso's when even the product that you didn’t have was so harshly criticised. We would like to apologise for your experience.
The “young adults” that work for Borruso's are the core of our business. They work really hard and are genuinely committed to the restaurant; we all strive for service excellence, but occasionally the ball is dropped as in many busy environments.
On the food front, we have a very diverse topping offering and are happy to adjust menu items to suit the individual (in fact some or our customers bring in their own Simon Johnson cheese!). Our menu is a living document that changes with time and our customer’s tastes. We have had many different menus over our 16 years in the pizza business and always listen to customer suggestions. Every complaint is dealt with extremely seriously as this is the way we improve and constant improvement is our mission.
We would love to WOW you with a true Borruso’s experience so please contact me either via our website www.borrusos.com or by phone as I would like to invite your table back to Borruso's for the perfect experience we aim to provide.
This place is great! The pizza's were really nice and there's plenty of variety. I particularly liked the pizza 'lite' options, which is particularly good for someone such as myself who can't have a pizza dripping with oil, which is how they are in some other places. The service was probably the best I have experienced. We were served focaccia for free at the bar while we were waiting.
Additionally, we weren't charged for a dish I couldn't eat because it was spicy, despite that the dish was supposed to be spicy (I didn't read the menu correctly). The manager even offered to remake the pizza for me without the spicy eggplant, which was helpful. This place is highly recommended particularly for the friendly service.
Went there on a Monday night and had a Porcapeppa pizza, a Spanish Prawn pizza, and a couple of imported beers. Pizzas were the delicious thin crust variety. The Peppadew on the Porcapeppa was a new sensation to me, quite interesting. Also had dessert each. Service was excellent and pizzas came quickly, good for a cold night. We were full by the end. Came up to just over $50 for two, good value for what we had. Note that we used the two pizzas for one offer mentioned above so you will find it more expensive on a weekend.
Response from Management:
Glad you enjoyed our special offer, thanks for coming!
Borruso's has good pizza and quick service but let's not get carried away and give it a 10. I like their thin crust, however, toppings would need less salt and sugar and more complex flavour to earn a 10. Service is quick and pleasant. Better than most and worth a visit.
Response from Management:
Thanks for taking the time to review our restaurant! Just wanted to note that all our toppings are fresh and unprocessed so we would like to think there is a minimum of 'salt & sugar' on our pizzas. Perhaps we inadvertently over salted your pizza...please come back and try again!
Also, we at Borruso's absolutely encourage people to 'get carried away' and spread the love, it makes us very happy to know that people have enjoyed their evening with us!!
