I thought it would be more than just an old shed. Echo's, reverberations, terrible acoustics. Place gave me a head ache. Not much of a water view.
Best value for the view, food and service. Safe choice of menu, nothing mind blowing but simple and tasty, service is spot on casual, Manly-style. Views are the best on a sunny day. Good find for Manly.
We made the mistake of assuming this was a fine dining venue, which for Saturday lunch, it definitely is not. We sat outside, a large paved area adjacent to the Boilerhouse building. Being next to the water was great: trying to enjoy our meals while overweight men in speedos and loud children used the restaurant as a thoroughfare was not. It seemed the only way for the general public to access the small beach the Boilerhouse is located at, was right past out table and was quite off-putting. There were only two other tables occupied so were surprised when the dish three out of four of us wanted was not available. And once we got over the surprise of the "upmarket kiosk" feel (as opposed to flash restaurant as suggested on the website), I guess it seemed appropriate to have hot dogs on the menu!
Nevertheless, it was a nice afternoon to enjoy bread, mains, some desserts and wine for four people for $160. If we weren't expecting a more polished eating experience, it would have been great. Perhaps a good place to take friends from out of town, as you can visit the museum afterwards and walk out on the jetty. Probably not the location for a fancy lunch though.
We went there for lunch and sat out on sun deck with views over the harbour. It was very peaceful and seconds away from the beach. Our table ordered sirloin, veal cheek risotto, Lamb and broadbill with sides, all were very good. We also had the desserts, lemon and lime tart and chocolate and pear pudding which were good. Can explore immediate vicinity around restaurant and also there is a museum too.
