I found this place in a book published not long ago called Hide and Seek Sydney as I love exploring places, I went there to try their vege dishes, upon entering, a waiter told me they were open and I asked if it was ok to visit the ladies, he said sure, it was so dimly lit, I nearly walked straight into doors and walls on the way, when I reached "the toilet".
I was horrified at the condition of them, totally disgusting, urine, other foul stuff on the bowl, I left quickly, rubbish and crockery was placed along the toilet corridor (dirty I was hoping) but best not judge I thought, someone thought enough to write about it in their book for heaven’s sakes, so I took a seat outside, ordered the fried tofu, waiter forgot to mention the film of gelatine like slime with shredded sea weed that it would be completely submerged in, after scraping this all off.
I loved the tofu, the waiter was watching me intently as I kept scraping, but never once offering me another plate, another dish, nope, this guy was just going to keep watching me try to find the reason it was printed in the book! I tried a few other dishes then left, toilets, no gloves being worn in kitchen, lack of basic service and mediocre food are the reasons I prob won’t go back. Not unless Keanu Reeves asks me nicely.
Had dinner on a Tuesday night. Inside table due to chilly weather. The food was fabulous. Had dumplings and spring rolls (both delicious) followed by the vinegar tempura shiitake and the salt pepper chilli "prawns". I guess we chose the vegan for non-vegan selections, and they did not disappoint. Tasty, filling, fabulous textures, crisp and hot. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and will go back in warmer weather for an outdoor table and a park view.
Not worth bothering with unless you're a vegetarian and even if you are you're probably better off just going to normal yum cha and sticking to the non-meat dishes.
Some of the more original dishes (like the stuffed tofu with peanut sauce and the spinach spring rolls) and the dishes that are usually vegetable and tofu based at normal yum cha were fine but any dishes that attempted to replicate meat were terrible (the 'pork' buns were plain disgusting).
The service was fairly poor with bad descriptions (the mushroom dumplings did not seem to have any mushrooms in them at all and the waitress adamantly told us that the pork buns were pork!). Expensive compared to other yum cha and not really worth it.
We went to this place as I had vegetarian friends who did not eat garlic or any underground root. The food was good as a lot of spices were omitted so for that standard I guess they did well. Expensive but they had a good variety for vegetarians.
I have eaten here twice, both times for the lunch yum-cha menu. Service has been wonderful both times, attentive and quick staff, the food was very tasty, reasonably priced and the atmosphere was delightful. I look forward to going again!
We took overseas visitors to Bodhi and, as with all our many past visits, the vegetarian yum cha was tasty and plentiful. It’s not cheap, but the location and setting make it a lovely place for a relaxed lunch, but here’s the gyp. We warned our guests that the prices for beer were prohibitive, so three of us opted for a pot of green tea only to be stung for $12.90 (that’s $4.30 each!).
I queried the bill and was told that the price is “per person”, not “per pot”, but that’s not my point. I have never paid for green tea in any other Asian restaurant in any other country. Add to that the additional 2% charge to pay by Visa card and you have a disappointing dining experience that cannot be redeemed by the exhortation “Thank you and enjoy your day!” printed on the bottom of the receipt. When we go again, if we go again, it’s Sydney tap water all round! Be warned.
I enjoyed my recent lunch here with friends. The service needs to improve, we waited a long time for our drinks and had to chase them. I thought the prices were reasonable.
Went there with a group of friends today. The food was very good but the service atrocious, slow and unattentive and we had to ask many times for basic things (a knife, and water). It is also expensive for what it is. Just to confirm my feeling that the business ethics of this place are of the rip-off kind, I was charged 2% "service charge" to pay with a card. My objections were ignored. I think Bodhi only survives because there are so few places for vegans in Sydney.
I read the review before I went to this restaurant. The deep fried dishes were too oily. The Vietnamese roll was fresh, but tasteless. The other dishes are below my expectation. We made a trip to this restaurant, and I must say they have lots to improve if they want to serve a vegetarian yum cha. Thanks.
Great place for lunch on a sunny day. Not crowded, close to city but in a quiet nook, alongside park. Good service, and though not a fan of Yum Cha, found the delivery here very accommodating. Yum Cha advantage retained, you choose how much or how little you want to eat and even individual selections can be shared between your party and hence sample wider variety. Food was very good. Service was polite, discrete and attentive. Price was very reasonable. I'll be going back.
