Was recommended to go here, and soo glad they did! We had to wait a little while for a table in their little bar next door which was great. Chatting over some great spanish wine really put us in the mood to enjoy their delicious tapas!
The hostess really looked after us (I think her name is Sarah?) and the rest of the staff were great too. Another great Sydney restaurant that doesn't cost the earth! Hooray!
Tried to have a meal here (for two) but was told by the maître d' to have a quick drink around the corner at the pub and I'd get a call when a table came up. An hour later we were still waiting. An hour and a half later, we walked past Bodega to Longrain for a feast. When did attitude get attached to food and wine in Sydney? It's so NYC.... 1980's!!! get over it. We won't be back.
I have been to Bodega twice now. After the first visit, I absolutely loved it but after the second, I will never be back. Who do these people think they are? We left utterly offended, spending only 17 dollars per head (the last time I went I spent in excess of 50 dollars) and not really full, merely because we were so put-off by the disgraceful service.
We arrived not long after opening and with three out of our party of four. The restaurant was three quarters empty. The fourth of our party walked up the road and had called to say she was 5 minutes away. We were told by the waitress at the door that we couldn't have our table until everyone was there. I know this is their policy but really thought it ridiculous that since the place was so empty and there was no-one queuing behind us, it ought to have been okay.
We explained that our friend was five minutes away, to which the waitress argued that she 'hears that same story every night - you say five minutes but it never is'. Being accused as being a liar isn't really the best way to begin a dining experience. In any case, we managed to get her to give us a table, under the condition that we begin ordering right away.
Not wanting to not comply, we ordered a few dishes and some drinks. The drinks never arrived and we had to ask for them again. When the waiter wants to take away our menus, we asked to hang on to one, as we would be ordering more when the last person arrived. He said he had to take them all because once the food came, we'd spill stuff all over them and they'd get dirty. So far then, we were both liars and filthy people.
Then our lovely waitress from the entrance walked past and noticed that our friend was still not there (this was 5 minutes later and the restaurant was still more than half empty). She said smugly, 'see she still isn't here yet, is she? This is what I was saying - you all say five minutes, but it never is. I fall for it every time.' I have never been so appalled or made to lose my appetite from such a revolting attitude to service providing in my life.
The food was good but a little oily and certainly nothing special. Sorry Bodega, this is Sydney and I repeat - who do you think you are? There are so many great places out there where you don't have to put up with that kind of snobby rubbish and frankly, you can keep your table and unsullied menus.
Finally had the pleasure of dining at Bodega and it was delicious! each small meal had a special twist and taste... the cuttlefish with ink sauce is presented so well and the flavours blend perfectly. I won't go into details for each dish, although I do want to mention that you must try the banana split dessert!! That's really a WOW!
I am bringing all my girlfriends back for a fun night with wonderful food and drinks asap. I love the ambience, the noise factor really suits the place to a tee! I do find it a tad pricey for the size of the dish, but that's what tapas is all about... as long as it tastes good!!!
Sitting at the bar is the best way to experience Bodegas, you are watching the expert chefs prepare the food and picking up culinary tips along the way! The variety on the menu is impressive, as is the wine list and neither disappointed. The cauliflower and chick pea dish was seriously yum as were the fish specials. The service was attentive, but not rushed at all (which is a pleasant surprise in a place that does not take bookings).
The place had a real buzz about it and despite the higher than expected cost, I would really recommend it for lovers of good food.
Terrific tapas. Cool, hip, fast paced Sydney restaurant with the noise to match. Although the food is flavoursome and the wine list well thought out, it's overpriced and the noise is too much. After 3 visits I am over it.
The staff here are delightful. The service and the atmosphere are great. The food is terrible. There is no "extra bite" or wow factor. I can't understand what the fuss is about (and have now been quite a few times to try and work it out).
Being greeted at the door by Sarah is a highlight, being fed by Ben and Elvis is blissful. Love the feel of the space. It is a wonderful experience and Sydney dining has improved because of them.
I have just found my new favourite restaurant. While the wait was almost 2 hours, it was worth it, but best to arrive early. The eggplant starter was delicious, full of flavour. Service was great, and the food was prepared extremely quickly. I would go back to try every other dish.
