I have eaten here a a few times and have always been a huge fan. Last night however, the food was different - very unextraordinary and distinctly and consistently lacking in flavour. I don't know if we made a series of bad menu choices or if they had a different kitchen staff but it was such a let down after such wonderful previous experiences.
Unpleasant experience on Saturday night. We were packed in like sardines, waited far too long for our food to be served and then told by the manager that a minimum 30 minutes wait for each course is standard in all Balmain restaurants on a Saturday night. The food quality was average and not worth the double cost compared to similar restaurants.
I went here for a party and we got the back room and it was ok. The food has so many intense flavours and the service was good for a Sunday Night. The menu is very interesting and varied with some unusual combinations. For Darling St I think it would have to be in the top 5.
This is one of my favourite haunts. It's a good half hour from where I live, but I've yet to be disappointed from my experiences here. The staff are always helpful and friendly, even when they're run off their feet, and they've always been willing to take into consideration any special requests that I or my friends have had. And the food is very, very good. always a plus at a restaurant.
Probably go here 5/6 times a year. Food always pretty good, the back room can get hot and sometimes there are delays on food, but given how busy it often is you can understand why. A good restaurant but is relatively pricey.
We had a family night out here last week and were blown away with not only the food, but the service.
Ambience: We sat outside on one of the more chilly days of this past month so weren't as comfortable as we'd have liked. We did have waiters checking in on the heaters regularly so we were kept warm. Smokers hovering nearby dampened things. In the future we'll opt for an inside seat.
Food: Utterly delicious. Great range on both the entree and main menu and well worth the price tag attached. We shared a red duck curry, some beef with black bean, and a couple of chicken dishes.
Service: In the top range of service we've experienced in Sydney. An attentive, but not obtrusive waiter who knew her menu and products and indulged some aging relatives.
Value: Balmain is often priced higher than it should be. This is not the case with this restaurant.
We dined here on a Tuesday evening when the restaurant wasn’t too busy. It’s a nice place with a nice warm feel to it, mood lighting and overall a pleasant atmosphere.
We ordered fried chicken wontons, prawn dumplings, red curry duck and Barramundi in lemongrass. Overall the food was decent but not great. The barramundi was lacking freshness and the meals lacked any real taste. We shared the dessert platter for 2 which wasn’t bad. Unfortunately though one of the sorbets tasted off and as if it had been frozen for a very long time. The consistency was poor and the taste as you can imagine was not enjoyable.
A somewhat expensive place to eat for food that isn’t all that great and with so-so service.
I love Blue Ginger! One of my favourite places to dine. Nice cosy atmosphere and can get quiet even on weekdays. I recommend it to anyone wanting good quality indian food. Do expect to pay a little more than usual, but mostly well worth it for consistent, good quality food.
Curries are delicious and not oily like in other places. If you feel like trying something new I would recommend trying it a Blue Ginger. Recommend their Lamb cutlet entree.
Service is friendly and efficient most of the time. A long time ago we had a bad night and the staff did not seem too apologetic, but we have been back since, and have never had a repeat of this bad service. Can get quite busy and recommend making a reservation on weekends.
We've been a loyal customer since awhile but after our experience last Friday I don't think will be coming back anytime soon. The service was horrendous, our entree took 30 minutes to come, same with the 2 mains which came 30 minutes apart. The staff keep over looking our table and didn't seem bothered that we waited that long for our food. Very disappointing experience.
