Sydney Eats "Bent Fork Award" Best New Restaurant
Our food is a seasonally driven mix of contemporary French & European dishes, with a splash of Anglo influences for good measure. Grounded in tradition this is a fresh, playful and wholesome interpretation of classical cooking.
Head Chef Leah Schwedler grew up in a family of great cooks who encouraged her in the kitchen from a young age, she still bears a small scar from helping her Gran bake as a 4 year old. Her family believed in cooking and eating together & she has inherited their passion for food and strongly believes dining is about bringing people together.
Constantly thinking about food and combinations of flavours, she channels her frenetic energy and creativity so as to allow the ingredients in each dish to “speak for themselves”. Her food is playful, honest and uncomplicated, call it dressed up comfort food or refined rustic, it is simply food to be eaten & enjoyed.
Leah’s menus are constantly changing and evolving with the seasons, dishes change frequently enough that in 6-7 weeks returning diners are welcomed back to an almost entirely new menu – other than a couple of favourites we won’t be changing!

Had mixed feelings about this restaurant. One of the waiters, who I believe was the maitre d' knew what he was doing when it came to sitting us down and explaining all the specials and recommendations of the restaurant. The waiter who had taken care of us after was just new and had to keep going back to the kitchen everytime we had a question about a menu item.
When I asked when the dessert would come out I was told "it will come out, but not like right away" lol. Not a big deal, however, service was hit and miss. They forgot my drink order and food came out rrrreeeaaaallllyyyy slowly. We were there for a total of 2.5 hours and after each course we were waiting for another to 45 minutes to the next one. I loved their scallops, which were served with brussel sprout leaves, prosciutto in a creamy sauce.
I didn't believe that $34 was a good deal for my steak. Although cooked medium rare, it was tilting more to the blue side, was pretty cold on the inside and was served with shoestring chips that honestly looked like they had just come out of a freezer packet from the supermarket.
Dessert was lovely and simple: ganache with fresh berries. I don't think I would like to pay $34 for a main dish like that again. The restaurant is lit dimly. The rest of the patrons were a lot older and I was questioning whether they would have been able to actually read the menus. It is like a corner shop, just transformed into a restaurant. Service suffered on rating mainly because of time.

One of the best meals we have ever had. All courses were absolutely delicious and I couldn't fault anything. The service was attentive and friendly and we left vowing to return. I love having such a beautiful restaurant so close to home. For the price the quality and presentation of the food is unbelievable.

Came with high expectations. No matter how good the food is if you are not served within reasonable time frames the experience is definitely spoilt. We were left waiting ages for our first two courses and then dessert and coffee came a little quicker as we ordered it while still finishing our mains. My husband lost the plot within the first hour and I was left to maintain polite banter with the remote staff, one of which was sarcastic, until all had been served.
We let ourselves out of the restaurant noticing as we passed the window that no-one had come to collect our payment. As well as slow, it was deafeningly noisy. A Friday night disaster, won't be back despite a good main course and dessert, forget the miniscule entree.

We have been here three times in the last 14 months, as a couple twice and once in a group of 12. Each experience has been wonderful, a carefully thought out menu predicated on what's fresh and seasonal, just the way it should be. We love it and will continue to dine with them. Let me be clear, this is not a 3 hat restaurant (it should get 1 though!) but what it does, it does very well.
The food is very, very reasonably priced for what is presented. I cannot fathom the few poor reviews they've had here amongst the multitude of excellent ones, you can't please everyone I guess. I concede service, which is friendly and helpful is a little on the slow side (you're given notice in the menu for those dishes which take a little longer to turn out) which I take as a plus so I can take my time enjoying each course with what is a decent wine list to choose from.
Give it a go, I think you'll want to come back again and again as we do.

My husband, baby daughter and I dined here for my birthday and the food was delightful. I got a lovely surprise when my dessert came out with the words Happy Birthday on it.
More than that the service we received from the staff far exceeded our expectations. Our baby got sick in the restaurant and without so much as a fuss, all mess was promptly cleaned. Staff showed genuine concern for our baby and did not seem to mind that she made the mess.
Thank you staff at Blancmange, I wish there were more restaurants with staff like you out there.

Worth the battle through the rain. Warm welcome from the staff. Cozy room but enough space to be private. Well priced wines compliment the delicious food. We will be back.

I have dined at Blancmange a few times over the years and have always loved it. Dined with a friend on Tuesday evening - ambiance and food was first class, but we had a very "snooty" waiter. No eye contact, no personality, no thank you at the end of the evening. So, sadly for the rest of the staff, no tip.

Took my mother there for a treat on Saturday night. Food was fantastic (couldn't fault it), ambience was Ok, a bit noisy but then what restaurant isn't these days.
Service was good, didn't feel rushed but there wasn't any lenghty delays between courses either. Food is excellent so that's value for money but the wine is a little pricey and, unfortunately, they won't let you byo on week-ends, so if you want a drink you'll have to pay for it! I would definitely go back, but only for special occasions. It's not really the place to go if you're looking for a casual sat night meal.

We love this little restaurant and come back every year for our anniversary dinner. Not big, bold and precocious, its understated, cosy surroundings complement simply great food. Highly recommended.
