Well what can I say, finally a proper restaurant in Campbelltown! We have eaten here every weekend for the past 6 weeks and are so happy not only to have a quality restaurant in the area but to see the Stump back in action, new and improved, sleeker and so so much sexier! Obvious improvement have been made such as the decor, someone said on this post it looks like something in the city, indeed it does and why shouldn't we have a sleek restaurant in Campbelltown?? we know what a good restaurant is!
The other major improvement is the food, no shop a docket but to be honest the quality speaks for itself. If you're after a complete meal deep fried in fat that sits in your stomach till the next morning, try Outback! All in all, we have found the food to be very good, admittedly it was a little shaky at the beginning but the past couple of visits have been spot on.
Steaks are a standout of course, clearly they are using a good supplier, we had a marble score 8 wagyu scotch fillet for only $29 it literally melted in my mouth, only 3 days prior I was at a work lunch at restaurant in the CBD where I had exactly the same steak for $54 and quite frankly it was not as good.
Looking into the kitchen everything seems to be well organised and clean with what can only be described as 'professional chefs' . A whole lot of shouting and busy is a joy to watch, there is a chef in there who could be the next Ramsey, he shouts so much. It all adds to the theatre of the place.
Service is a little hit and miss with management probably not as good as they could be, that said it is unobtrusive but would it hurt to smile????!! As steak houses go it's great, something for everyone even our sullen teenagers!! Of course we will be back!
Pretty bad I have to say - took my boyfriend here to celebrate his new job, we ended up going elsewhere afterwards because we left unsatisfied! I had half rack of lamb (tasteless and overcooked), he had steak and ribs combo - steak was nicely cooked through but tasteless, we both had to ask for sauce on the side - ribs were very dry.
Shared a salad which was quite oily, but the chips were the best part, nicely flavoured, couldn't get enough of those! I know it wasn't only us that found the meat totally tasteless, as I heard the table next to us also ask for tomato sauce!
Found the wait staff to be quite cold and rushing. I like what they've done with the interior design though... But definitely won't be coming back here!
Thanks for having us! Went for dinner with the man and chose the black and really enjoyed ourselves, and our food! to be honest the price is pretty spot on (for those who complain about having to order sides separate, this is the norm in these types of establishments. Steakhouses MEAT and thats the point. My man prefers this as he doesn't eat salads or veg!!!).
We found the kids menu awesome and very well budgeted too. The dessert was killer awesome and a proper espresso latte made to barista standards was great. Lastly the steakhouse actually feels like a proper city restaurant and I was 'very' taken back by this. Love the open flames and wood stick light shades.. Very suave. lol. cheers x x
Our first dining experience at the Black Stump Campbelltown was Horrible. We had to ask for a menu. We were not once asked if we wanted drinks. We waited an hour and ten minutes for our main meals to come out after enquiring about them several times. To top it all off we were seated directly in front of the door which was freezing.
I requested to be moved as we had young children with us. This request was not even addressed. All in all not one of the staff had a smile on their face and I got the impression that the morale was very low. I don't think that we will be dining at the Black Stump again. It is grossly over priced for the terrible service. The night cost us $150 for an experience we couldn't wait to end.
I have not been to a restaurant this good in Campbelltown ever!!!! Nothing like the old black stump. Great menu for the family and we spent about $40 bucks a head which we thought was pretty reasonable. The manager told me that they buy Grain-Fed MSA meat only, it would have been good to have an explanation on that but other than that the service was very good. Without question we will be back not only with the family but with the kids too.
4 of us dined here about 2 weeks ago. I have not gone to a black stump for ages for know reasons. Well, not much has changed. The steaks are small and overpriced considering nothing but a piece of steak was on the plate. If you want veg, salad or fries you pay extra for. Not even a garnish was on the plate.
The service was non existent. Our bill was $215, that was for 4 mains and a few starters and drinks. The only thing is the decor is nice but to me thats not good enough. Save your cash and go elsewhere.
We dined here last week. The food was so slow! 55 minutes for our mains to arrive, no entrees order and it was a table of 4, on a Weds night with the place less that 1/2 full... Food was below average, but the decore was lovely.
6 of us went here on sat night. Entrees were cold, half the mains were cold, serving sizes small, steaks not cooked properly. Had to ask for cutlery, only 3 sets on the table. $35 each with no dessert and only breads of entrees so overpriced.
Edit: Went back for a 2nd try and the meals were much better this time. I still don't think it is the best value restaurant in the area though.
