We thus mourn the passing of our favourite Manly restaurant...So sad :-( Thank you so much Bistro Marlo for many a special evening... please let us know should you open up anew one day...
This is my favourite restaurant in Manly. Mark Armstrong is a great chef, the service staff are professional and friendly, and the food is always tasty, hearty and big. A favourite with Manly locals. Love the duck, and Armstrong has always cooked steak to perfection.
Home food that makes you smile. Great (and rare) byo policy and a cosy, dark room and awesome staff that make you feel like it's all about you and your partner.
Good Paris street bistro/cafe style food, with Paris prices! Nice sunny atmosphere on a warm day. What's the difference between a run of the mill bistro, and the kind that get a good rating in the Michelin red guide? I'm not sure, but I don't think the people at Bistro Marlo know either. Very sensible salads, chardonnay, light pastas, and seafood. Just fine.
Service from all staff (including the chef - Mark Armstrong) was fantastic. Friendly & unpretentious. Great food, though the males of our group thought the servings at the degustation (served the 1st sunday each month) were very small. Would go back again for a la carte menu.
It is so sad that every place in Manly is deep fried seafood platter (I could get better at the fish markets and pay 1/3) crap. Manly and Darling Harbour represent the worst of Australian cuisine and I find it offensive.
It is FANTASTIC to find a place like this. It is such a standout amongst so much overpriced eateries. If you are even thinking of eating in Manly then you have no choice but to go here. My only criticism is that it is not at the Le Kiosk or Manly Beach site.
I would suggest to the 1st reviewer that a degustation menu is hard to do and this is a bistro. Also look at the competition nearby. This is a standout....
Be prepared to try anything on the menu - you'll love it! It is definitely French with the menu on the night we visited include some offal, souffle and duck dishes. For those less brave you can still get fish or a steak. The red wine list was excellent, although a bit pricey. NB: They don't take reservations so arrive early.
