At this end of the market, the service was unacceptably haphazard - unfamilier with the menu, vague about who ordered what. My fish main was bland and the parfait dessert featured a slice of ice between the biscuit and the filling.
Been here three times for lunch recently, a bit inconsistent. First time the food and service were great, second the food was good but the service awful (not rude just disorganized, like they'd all started that day), third time the food wasn't so good but the service ok - not much of a review I know. Ambience is non-existent. I thought I'd found a good new place but don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.
Food: The food was nice however, was unexceptional. I ate barramundi which the chef cooked well. However, it was unexciting and not distinguishable from countless other restaurants in Sydney.
Ambience: Bistro Fax attaches itself to a hotel. The ambience reflects this. For example, hotel guests enter in gym gear to inspect the restaurant. The decor is clean and modern. It is thankfully peaceful for a city restaurant.
Service: The service was very mediocre. We cycled through 4 waiters. The waiters did not refill our wine or water glasses. They were not familiar with the menu: They did not know how the fish was cooked.
Value: The restaurant has slightly above average prices. However, the prices are not commensurate with the service or food.
It is the second visit to the restaurant and we were not disappointed. This time we brought our children. The menu was a bit on the lean side for our younger child who found her meat rissole a little bit too spicy for her child's palate. The remaining three of us all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
The only mishap and perhaps not a very good one was when the vinagrette that should of accompanied the freshly shucked oysters was forgotten. I found the staff quite refreshing rather than amateurish. Perhaps it would help if the staff were a bit more familiar with the beers on offer. Overall the experience and food were very good.
Very amateurish staff, I am rather disappointed with the service which was attentive but unprofessional, being a 5 star hotel restaurant, one certainly expect better. The food again was mediocre, fills your stomach but absolutely no wow factor. Again, a real disappointment for such an establishment. I hate to think overseas travellers chosing to dine at their hotel and thinking this is the norm of what Sydney has to offer.
Excellent food and pleasant ambience especially if you get a table near the window in this tastefully modernised art deco building (Radisson Hotel). Great for work lunch.
The first thing I noticed it was the ambience of the restaurant - quite remarkable.
The food, I was having was gnocchi, so far that's the best gnoochi I have ever tasted, quite filling, can't finish the whole plate though. The service was good - friendly staff and one particular Asian girl is attentive to answer lots of questions. Nice and relaxing.
I enjoyed this restaurant virtually to myself on a quiet Sunday evening. Scallop starters and a Snapper main course were cooked to perfection and beautifully served. Unfortunately the trip was badly marred by the eager but useless young staff. It took ages to have my dishes cleared (in an empty restaurant !) but the best bit was when I asked for some port with my cheese. First the waitress didn't know which of the wines on the list were port, then she brought me a glass of something definitely not port. When I told her it wasn't port her answer was, 'Yes it is port, I asked my supervisor, I'll bring you the bottle.' When she brought out the bottle of calvados she was polite enough to apologise but it still summed up the place.
Pleasant, well lit dining room with very friendly yet amateur floor staff. Like many hotels it seems they've hired young hospitality students without much waiting experience. My first lunch visit found a scampi risotto that was cooked to al dente perfection but blandly flavoured with an almost ammonia-like edge to the shellfish. Second lunch visit was an absolutely divine crispy skinned salmon on a bed of pearl barley risotto, topped with dill and a yoghurt dressing flavoured with Middle Eastern style spices. This was superb and has made it onto my list of favourite dishes. Dessert was average. Food here is very hit and miss - although my salmon was a major hit!
