Fantastic broad ranging contemporary menu, served in a beautiful setting that exudes the ambience so often found wanting within inner city establishments. Friendly attentive service complimented what was an extremely enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.
Went to Bistro CBD a couple of weeks ago and even now I can still imagine the food, it was really that memorable. The chef was very accommodating as well to the needs of two vegetarian friends. As we came early, my friends were allowed to choose and mix vegetables/vegetarian options from the menu to suit their taste.
Ambience of the place was great with soft jazz music playing in the background and our table got to chat away happily. The waitress who served us was very attentive to our needs and was never intrusive.
Overall, it was good value to dine here and will come again.
Although a quiet evening when we ate here, the service was outstanding and the food equally special. The Angus fillet was amazing as was the lamb. Unfortunately we did not have time to try more on the menu, this restaurant is definitely worth another visit. Not a major point, but I would suggest sourcing the sourdough from somewhere.
Overall, a great city eatery, where you can take in the street scenes below and enjoy the intimate dining room.
Visited the Bistro CBD for the first time since it reopened in February. Food was fantastic and very quick, service was very attentive without being intrusive. Will certainly be a regular choice when I'm entertaining clients.
Nice little bistro with excellent service and great food. Great atmosphere so good to take clients. We had no problems with waiting for food - all round a great lunch.
We had a business lunch there today. I've noted the previous comments on late meals and ours was no exception. It took 80 minutes to arrive and we only had mains. However, the food was wonderfully prepared and plated. The place was buzzing. Service was friendly and attentive, only undermined by the slow meal delivery. It's a fine dining experience so its not pub fare value...it's reasonable value. Their biggest problem is the slow kitchen.
Was looking forward to trying Bistro CBD particularly given it's one Chef's Hat award and further more with it's attractive layout and large, bright airy feel. With hindsight, I should have nodded appreciatively to the wait staff , turned around and had a beer at the bar downstairs and not bother dining there at all.
At first, our wait staff were courteous in showing us to our table promptly, offering a pre-lunch drink and presenting the menus. As an entree I selected the prawn salad with confit gizzards. The presentation of the entree could not be faulted but the over-powering flavour of the prawn for a moment led me to think they had turned, but without jumping to conclusions I ate around the prawns and tried the salad and gizzards. Although popular at the pub on a Saturday evening, "Surf and Turf" in many ways is a combination that should perhaps be left in the 1970's, along with the prawn cocktail. The confit qizzards was just far too much to pair with a prawn and even on it's own lacked the delicacies of similarly tried confit. Unfortunately my entree became a dish spread to all corners of the plate to try and disguise that next to nothing was eaten. Next up, I ordered the eye fillet and was looking forward to the accompanying maitre d'hotel butter. Had ordered a lovely Pikes shiraz from the well rounded wine list, and given it was a working lunch, we were not drinking a huge amount (to my disappointment) and were limited by the clock, so decided to keep it to one bottle of wine.
So our table of four sipped on our wine and waited......and waited.......and waited.......we asked politely once, we asked politely twice, that's when it really went downhill. The manager pointed out that because we had entrees there would be a delay on our mains. Just to recap, we had 2 salads, a prawn salad and a plate of oysters, so you may appreciate my confusion as to how these "uncooked" entrees would delay our mains. Needless to say, by the time our mains arrived close to 2 hours after ordering we were among the last to be eating.....sadly the bottle of wine was all but consumed as we waited for our mains and then the waitress had the audacity to ask if I'd like to take another one as she was serving the mains. By this stage, I think we all just wanted to leave. The fillet was acceptable but far from memorable and I honestly could not face having to sit at Bitro CBD again....
I agree wholeheartedly with Margaux9. For a "hat" restaurant the service was very immature. A vegetarian option was requested and the suggestion being "the market vegetables" - a euphamism for a plate of beans. The plural in 'vegetables" was misrepresented.
The waitress need only have explained and offered to add extra vegies such as potato gratin or the baby carrots that came with other meals. Ho Hum. Nevertheless the food was tasty, but the service highly impersonal and a long long long wait (over 25 minutes for half a dozen oysters) and 25 minutes later for mains - 50 minute wait for food... for a business lunch. No point slagging it off... just very disappointed.
