I was taken here for my work christmas party last year. We had a large party and took up the entire restaurant. The staff were fantastic, very accommodating. The food was delicious, particularly considering the number of people being served, I especially enjoyed the bread with whole roasted garlic. I will be taking friends here in the next couple of weeks to try the degustation menu, can't wait!
[Have since been back a couple of times with friends for dinner and didn't enjoy it nearly as much. The waiter who cracks the jokes about York St water is actually quite irritating. No desire to go back].

The first time we went to Bistro LillY was awhile back (late last year) and we loved it! the food and service was some of the best we had for a long time 10/10. The second time was a couple of weeks back and OMG everything was shocking! We had the degustation menu w/matching wine. 1st the food was a bit tasteless (and all seafood!). Some of the wine did not match at all! The service was so slow and not very friendly, what happen Bistro Lilly? New owners maybe who knows?

We had the degustation meal last year for our 3rd year anniversary. The food was very well presented and a tad above par. The only complaint is that the portions sizes were not to my liking, as they were far too small. Our waiter was very well present and was an absolute delight. Very friendly and engages in conversation with us.
The ambience can be summed up in one word: warm. The restaurant is not large, but what it lacked in space was compensated by it's layout and decor. I'll definitely be going back!

We enjoyed the 5 course degustation menu. All food beautifully presented and delicious and paired with outstanding wines, really couldn't fault the food at all. The desserts were amazing and very generous in portion. Service left a little to be desired but otherwise a great dining experience, highly recommended.

My girlfriend and I came to Bristro Lilly for our 1 year anniversary. I had hyped up this place after reading reviews on eatability. We got the spring degustation "special". How disappointed was I when I expected the food to be "OMG" but instead it was "OK", so the special wasn't special after all.
Service was great, food was average and not value for money. Thus we didn't tip.

I have been here on 5 - 6 occasions in the last 12 months and I find the food gets better with each visit. On my last visit I was greeted at the door with smiles from the manager and quickly taken to a nice corner table. I order the Zucchini Flowers that were filled wih crab and leeks. My partner had the Scallops and both dishes were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. For main course the barramundi was cooked to perfection and served with light fragrant sauce which had a lobster flavour. While the dessert list is small.

My brother had a function at Bistro Lilly and my parents (who were additional guests who were not accounted for in the $60 degustation) were informed by a waiter that there were two additional slices of the birthday cake and asked if they would like a piece. Assuming because my brother had paid for the cake, they agreed only to find a $5 charge per cake on the final receipt.
I found this appalling as this was merely a sliver of a cake from Michel's Patisserie served with a dollop of cream! Highly disappointed by a restaurant that receives such upstanding reviews.
Update: 24th October 2009, After getting into contact with management, they pulled up the receipt and found that they had indeed overcharged us for the cake. Although Bistro Lily apologised via email and promised to credit back the amount, they have failed to do so after 3 weeks of correspondence.
Also, we never received any confirmation or the conditions of reservation which stated the additional service charge. Although this may have been an error due to miscommunication, this had made our experience at Bistro Lily most disappointing.
Response from Management:
Just a few corrections
Firstly you were provided with a Terms and conditions which was signed by the host that outlines an 8 % service charge. Most restaurants charge a 10% service charge for a private function.
Secondly we did not charge extra for cake for your parents cake. This charge was for two coffees they order.
Please when writing such a review do not discredit a business unless you have your facts correct

I ate here last Sat night in a party of 4. Whilst the setting was lovely and the food was beautifully presented. We were all a little disappointed with the overall experience.
The restaurant was packed, mostly made up of a large private party. After our initial first 2 courses, we quickly finished our wine (we all had the degustation with wine). In an establishment of this calibre, it's not good to leave a table dry for more than a few minutes. We were told by a lovely waitress that there would be a 40 minutes wait between 3rd and 4th course due to the private table. Not happy. I also thought it was a bold move to pair the fish course with a pinot noir. Not awful, but not great either.
I will say at the end of the night we were not charged for the bread and additional wine we requested, but a 40 minutes wait during a degustation is pretty poor form.
Go there on a weeknight and I'm sure the experience would be much better.

I was looking for a nice restaurant in Sydney to invite 200 or so family and friends for my wedding dinner and came across quite a few. I decided to go with Bistro Lilly’s based on 2 categories, 1 - price and 2 - Reviews other patrons had written about their wonderful experience.
I have to say though, that based on these two categories my expectation was already set that this should be a pretty good dinner. I’m so happy to say that what was delivered on the night was way above and beyond my expectations. Why?
Well simply put, the decor and ambience of the restaurant is set perfectly for an intimate gathering.
The service from door to table and throughout the night was exemplary of any restaurant with fine dining and I found the staff to be sincerely consistent with their service. Considering I haven’t written about the food or price yet, this is an excellent start.
The food was presented very well and delicious with all my guests commenting on how much they enjoyed the night and how delicious the food is. For the price that Bistro Lilly’s charge, I cannot believe I received this kind of exceptional service and quality for such a price. Bistro Lilly’s in my mind is definitely one of Sydney’s best kept secrets to fine dining.
Thank you to everyone there for really making our wedding night a great way to top off a perfect day!

Gets a great vibe inside, but can be quite noisy. Service is good, but can get a bit caught up when busy. The food is good and the servings generous. The price is, perhaps, a bit more than the experience suggests, but they seem to do a pretty good job overall. Have done both lunch and dinner, normal days and special events (Val's Day).
