If you know that this place specialises in scrambled eggs then you make your way here to sample them - I guess if I wanted poached then there are plenty of places around that offer them. Lil Neecy and I were not disappointed with the scrambled eggs (which I had also with roasted tomato & bacon) plus sour dough - delicious.
The coffees were pretty good also. Could not fault the service - sure the waiters did not make small chit-chat or smile a lot however, they were polite and provided quick service - what more do you want?
There was a queue waiting for tables (approx 9am Sunday morning). The only downside in my view point is that maybe it's a ittle overpriced. Would come again but we prefer our eggs poached.

I could not believe that this place attracts customers. We were treated with utmost disrespect by a cold and shallow crew. The food was cafe cuisine at a boring level and well overpriced. Sorry Bill not coming here again.
I love Bill's as a rule: fresh food, good coffee and large serves but the staff are so rude. It is outrageous! Who do they think they are?? The waiter was unhelpful, got the order wrong, didn't greet us or farewell us, rolled his eyes when we took more than four seconds to order and practically needed to be tripped to get his attention. Nice.
At the checkout we thanked the guy and even left a tip and were met with absolute silence at which point I said loudly "the correct response to thank you is to at least say you are welcome." More silence. Again nice. Nice food but never again.
My husband and I had taken the day off work recently and wanted to start our day with what we had heard was one of the best breakfasts in Sydney so we made our way over to Bill’s in Surry Hills. The café was not busy or a full house.
We were greeted and seated without a smile and our order was taken again, without a smile or any pleasantries. My husband was told that he could only have scrambled eggs when he requested fried which we found strange for the reputation that the café had to only be able to do eggs one way. We assumed that they must be a special scram recipe.
Our drinks, a latte and an OJ took 20 minutes to arrive, the latte arriving before the OJ. We then noticed that a couple who had arrived at least 5 or 10 minutes after us had already been served their meals so we enquired as to where our meals were. The waiter gave the excuse that the fritters, which I had ordered, took a long time to cook and I couldn’t help but notice that the couple who were served their meals before us were currently enjoying their fritters. We were not given an apology.
When our meals arrived not long after, almost an hour after ordering, my husband’s toast was stone cold with a wedge of butter on top which failed to melt because of this. The scram was just scram and slightly watery, nothing special at all. The presentation of the fritters was a little baffling, some bacon, wilted baby spinach and a slice of grilled tomato sandwiched between 2 fritters with nothing else on the plate. I had to request relish which I had assumed came with the fritters. The fritters were good but the rest of the experience so lousy that my meal just wasn’t going to taste great no matter how good the food was.
At the end of our meal we made our way to the register to request our bill but were ignored for a good 5 minutes with no acknowledgment from the wait staff. Eventually we were asked and we requested the bill. We waited another 5 minutes before stopping one of the waiters who had been serving us at our table only to be asked if we wanted take away or table service. My husband overheard one of the staff say something about the system being down but we were not told this and as we were paying by cash this shouldn’t have been an issue, however, some communication would have been appreciated. We requested our bill once again and were finally able to leave.
I would not normally complain about a breakfast but Bill’s is meant to be one of the best in Sydney and after spending considerably more on breakfast than we would at our local café I felt compelled to say something.
This was one of the worst dining experiences that my husband and I have encountered. The “service” was pathetic and the food only average. I recommend you go anywhere but Bill’s and we regret not going somewhere closer to home.
I love Bills. The service is pretty good, no not the best I've ever had but well up there considering how busy it gets. For breakfast, the ricotta hotcakes are divine. The dried apple, cherry and almond loaf is delicious as well. For dinner, the lamb was yum and the fish was too. Overall, probably my favourite breakfast spot in Sydney, I keep going back for more and more.
Nothing special here at all. Had dinner with friends and the best part of the meal was the company. I had the calamari for entree which was nice enough and the lamb for main, which was also nice enough but not worth the price. The place lacks atmosphere too. Wine list was good and reasonable priced. I would go back for breakfast, but not to eat dinner again.
Wow! what a huge overpriced disappointment! (Breakfest) pretentious crowed as well, if there's not much substance to you may like this place. One of the only time I felt entitled a refund, not that I asked, I got class.
We went to Bills in Surry Hills for breakfast and were met by another group. We decided to move some tables together to accommodate the numbers and were scolded by the waitress that we were 'wrecking her room' and made to move the tables in a fashion that she approved of.
Upon ordering (among other rudeness) we were told that we could only have our eggs scrambled whether we liked it or not and that we couldn't split the table bill even though we had all ordered separately. I would never go back. Plenty of more friendly places in Surry Hills were one is not made to feel like an annoyance.
I have been a regular at Bills for a few years now, I must say as loyal as I am to Bills, the only decent meals are breakfast and lunch (brunch). I tried dinner there a few times, and it is just not as good. The scrambled eggs are quite good (on some occasions, they do make bad ones), corn fritters and the ricotta hotcakes are also great. For lunch my favourite is still the wagyu beef burger.
Horrible! My very last attempt of trying Bills was as such a disaster as my first encounter. I ordered the roast beef sandwich. Let me say, I cut off so much fat it covered a quarter of my plate, there was defintely more fat than there was bread let alone meat. In fact, when they took my plate away with all of the fat on the plate they didn't even question or have a concern for what was left. Thanks Bill for the 2 pieces of bread for $17.
