Very overrated. Had the corn fritter...trust me, our Indonesian maid makes a much better corn fritter. Ricotta hotcakes are not bad but too pricey. Steak sandwich...bland, nothing special, not much steak and yet costs more than $22 per serve. Coffee is not bad. 10% surcharge on the weekend...ridiculous.
8am was looking forward to breakfast here. It started off on the wrong foot because the waiter starting pushing for food orders and hurrying us along even though they were not short on tables being a weekday and in the morning. I started with a hot chocolate.
These are made with actual chocolate and are reminiscent of the Lindt hot chocolates but way too rich for my liking, just as well that the milk looked suspiciously watery I had the ricotta hotcakes but was quite disappointed compared to my previous experience. Even though the hotcakes were light and fluffy they were quite oddly shaped and there wasn’t enough butter or what was there was already melted in.
The banana wasn’t ripe and they should offer half serves, it was just too big. The restaurant itself is nicely situated but the toilets are outside so when I went they thought I was trying to run off and when I got back they handed me the bill with urgency. So much was ordering another coffee!
Very nice looking restaurant with a vibrant ambience and friendly staff. I went here for breakfast with a group of 7. Coffee and hot chocolate were lovely, however, the food was far too rich for me. I adore French food and am a fan of butter but I felt like I was going to have a cardiac arrest at the table with the amount of fat in my meal. I had the scrambled eggs with mushrooms and bearly got it down. Cream and butter overload but not in a luscious, guilty pleasure way.
I like my eggs to still taste like eggs. In any case I wasn't overly happy with my food but then again I'm not sure Bills is entirely about the food. It's an expensive breakfast and a name drop really. Not really my scene, dozens of other, nicer breakfast options in and around the area.
Went there for breakfast with some friends, the food was pretty average and extremely overpriced- plus there was a $2 surcharge per person because we went on a Saturday!
My friend ordered the Chicken club sandwich which was dry, avearage and bland, and ended up costing him $25, I had the corn fritters which were ok, but nothing spectacular. Another friend ordered Bacon and Scrambled eggs which had that much cream in them they were sickening.
It baffles me why this place is so popular, I've had much better and more reasonably priced food at other cafes. The one saving grace was the coffee though, it was really good and the service was good, shame about the average, overpriced and limited breakfast menu.
I'd heard such great things about Bills, so I was looking forward to brunch there with 3 friends on Saturday. After having the corn fritters recommended to me I was most disappointed with them. My friend from Holland who is a bit of a food buff who summed it up when he said 'It is not breakfast food'. I concurred, and gave it 3 out of 10, to which he concurred.
I'm not sure what the attraction of the corn fritters is, but they are dry, tasteless and unimaginative. Go there if you want to say you've been there, but it's overpriced average breakfast food. Nice coffee though. The bacon and eggs were good. But even I can cook that.
Went at dinner time late mid week. Ordered a veal main, which was tiny, entree size really, consisting of a few shreds of veal meat in a pumpkin puree base sauce with tagliatelli. Pretty flavourless. Friends ordered risotto (average) and ocean trout (again, average). Chocolate mousse dessert much better. NZ pinot noir was fine, but $48/bottle is pretty steep. Coffee very good. Service was fine. My opinion? Go there for breakfast, but avoid it for dinner, which is lousy value for money.
Went with my family to Bills for saturday breakfast. Ordered the scrambled eggs on sourdough toast. Had heard from many friends that these were the best in Sydney - and unfortunately it didn't live up to its reputation. Mine were very very average. Coffee was lovely, however I did expect better.
Bills was fairly busy when i came with a friend. This place seems very popular with the breakfast and lunch time crowd in the area.
Tried the corn fritters and thought they were pretty average on this day. The place was also incredibly noisy but that is to be expected when there is such a crowd.
Still wanted to come and have a look at the very first Bills cafe.
