This is one of those very average cafes where you would find very average food and service, which is exactly what we got. We often come here when its late at night and nowhere else is open or we just want to have a quick bite. Warning, do not bother trying their pizzas, they are dry, tasteless and a waste of time and money.
Great food, the Nachos are superb. Beverage seclection is quite limited and expensive - It's BYO so that makes the difference. What others have said is true about the TV. MTV is always on and just far too lound. Have been there 4 or 5 times and everytime have had to ask to turn down the volume.
Close to home, convenient, well priced, good food, service is fine but can be a little slow at times. Give it a try.....
Do not come here if you plan on carrying out a conversation whilst you eat dinner. The flat screen TV on the wall blares out MTV music at the highest volume possible. I was underwhelmed by their signature battered fish & chips. Our hamburger orders were messed up, no one ended up getting the burger containing the ingredients they had originally ordered.
Enter at your peril! I don't normally leave comments on this site but I thought my visit to Big Fish Little Fish yesterday evening warranted a quick write up.
I ordered fish and chips which turned out to fairly run-of-the-mill and had no complaints about service or anything in particular but when I was preparing to leave someone who I can only guess was the staff of the place started to insult a girl he was talking to. Not sure what the conversation was about but the man in question made his wishes quite clear by repeated telling the girl in a loud voice to "get out".
I think someone gave this place a zero for ambience in an earlier posting - I wonder if it is possible to give a place a minus figure. Luckily enough we had just finished as I would have walked out regardless. Not sure I'll be back.
Service seems very random... sometimes you can wait 2 mins for a drink you order, other times they will happily forget your order and leave you waiting 30 mins wondering where your coffee got to.
Noisy and way too close to the road to be able to hear what your dining companions are actually saying, but great if you want to be constantly screaming above the noise of crap music and hotted up cars driven by people who seem to have a death wish.
You'll be glad there's some iron bars between you and the road if you're there on a thursday night. Ambience is a funny word to use, considering there just isn't any.
The food is consistently good - love their fish and chips. Other items of the menu are tasty and well-proportioned. The ambience is lacking a little something - the whole place looks and feels tired - I definitely like their old shop better.
The service, however, leaves a lot to be desired. Stoney-faced waitresses who leave you standing at the counter for 10 minutes while they decide whether you are worthy of their time, who make you feel like you've asked to keep their first-born when you request tap water to go with your meal, and who toss your meals onto your table before stomping back to the counter - if you're into that kind of service, then this is definitely the place to be.
Unpretentious "real" food with good service. I have been going here for a couple of years and it is the best place to eat in Chatswood since The Moon Terrace closed, granted they are worlds apart but they were my two favourite restaurants in the area. Staff are friendly and not in your face, décor is fine, food is brilliant. What more could you want really?
Eat not quite regularly here. Used to pass this one by as it is open to the curb with few tables and chairs on side walk and tiled floor looked like an ambience disaster. With 1950 style square tables, red (fuchsia) walls, two big fridges on the left for self service drinks, counter on the right to order plus pay first for your food, and atop it all is tv that pumps out music clips that don't match the music pumped through the speakers.
Typically there is groups, couples, and singles here which spend most of their time tapping away at their laptops or mobiles. The service it short and a smile isn't easy to come by. The steaks are small. Why would you go there? The chips might be the best in Chatswood. The salad is always fresh. Best dish eaten here is the chicken burger which matches up as the best chicken burger I've eaten (I've had one or two. They have a good selection of tea which is nice. Also the fridge has natural soft drinks. Of which the cola is great not like other natural colas.
Went there for a late dinner one day with 2 other friends. The food was really good I have to say. It was really satisfying and tasty. We ordered garlic bread, chicken pasta, fetucinni marinara, and fish and chips. They were all good however I think not really value for money. The marinara had only tiny traces of seafood (when I say tiny, I literally mean tiny - the prawns were the size of a 5 cent coin or maybe even smaller and there were only a few pieces of fish). The fish and chips were good but again, a little too expensive.
The concrete floors were ugly and the seats were uncomfortable. However, having said that, I wouldn't mind going back there again once in a while especially if we're out looking for a late night snack.
