If you are in the mood BBQ Lamb Cutlets, then this is the place to go. The Thai eatery sized portion of sweet, tangy bbq cutlets served with a stir fried mixed vegi garnish is well worth the trek out to Coogee.
Noisy, busy and watch the stairs down to the toilet! But I love this place. The food is great - love it all. It changed name and isn't quite as generous as before and I fear it will slip further but so far I'm still enjoying it.
We were enticed to eat here by a letterbox flyer that offered us 15% off our bill if we dined on a Mon & Tues night. Not being ones to pass up a generous offer, we headed down there at 6.30pm on a Tuesday night. Thai Eatery appears to be a renamed and rebadged version of what was previously known as "Between Thai Noodle Bar". I suspect that this restaurant will probably go the same way as its predecessor which didn't last long unless it can garner the walk-in trade on busy Coogee Bay Rd, in reasonable numbers.
Whilst our food was fresh and the service quite pleasant and efficient, we just weren't inspired. My beef green curry was too creamy for my liking whilst the tofu dish with vegetables in garlic and pepper sauce was similarly overdone with the sauces. Portions were slightly on the small side. Our mixed entrée starter comprising one tiny piece of each of five different items was tasty but inadequate.
Thai Eatery is a narrow, elongated place opening up onto Coogee Bay Road. It wasn't so long ago that it was refurbished under its previous incarnation so it has a freshness about it. Wooden tables, comfy cushion seats instead of chairs and interesting murals on the walls, have created a relaxed and casual atmosphere that is well suited to the Coogee beach front. It's pleasant on a summer's night to sit near the wide-open entrance gazing out at the passing parade. When we arrived, it was pretty empty and we had our pick of the tables but it did fill up as the evening wore on. I don't think I'd like to sit at the back on a busy night. The hard surfaces and loud music would send noise levels through the roof. If we didn't have our 15% voucher, our bill would have come to $44 for just one mixed starter, two mains and rice. There don't seem to be any dessert choices. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place even as a last minute stand-in. It's overpriced and the food is average. You could do better elsewhere.
