This place is amazing! We flew in by seaplane from Rose Bay which was an amazing experience in itself (but I understand that you can drive to Berowra Waters and then get a boat across to the restaurant).
The menu is set up as a degustation style menu where you choose from 4-7 courses of entree sized dishes. As we had limited time due to the sea plane return flight schedule, we had 4 courses with matching wines but found that this was a more than sufficient amount of food.
Dietmar Sawyere himself was in the kitchen when we were there and he sure cooked up a storm. Excellent produce (eg amazingly tender wagyu) and an exquisite combination of flavours. The desserts were particularly impressive, including a deliciously refreshing espresso granita.
The restaurant itself has a feeling of casual elegance which is befitting of the location. Lunch time is probably best so you can take full advantage of the water views that the wall of windows offers. Overall an amazing experience but it does come at quite a cost.
This place is fantastic and the place to go for a special occasion. It's not cheap (at over $400 for 2 including a few glasses of wine) but it is a must do! Food - loved it all and I found the service hit just the right note, professional but relaxed. Only problem was so blissed out I forgot I had an entertainment book gold card I could use. Oh well I will have to go back.
I finally came here to see what the fuss was about after seeing a number of reviews in magazines and papers. I did not expect to like it, as places with hype usually turn out for the worst. And it was expensive for a meal, make no mistake about it. What I can say after having been was that it might not have been worth every cent, but it came very very close.
You get picked up in a little boat which is unusual. You get taken to a wharf out the front of the restaurant (which is a long line of glass and sandstone under a blue corrugated iron roof). It looks beautiful. You walk up into the restaurant to look back over where you have come from. You then spend the rest of the day looking at boats and birds and fish and cliffs. The atmosphere here really is amazing.
You don't get 3 courses, but choose as many as you want. They weren't oversized, but we were full when we left. We had 5 each. Every one was unique and superbly presented. Every one was beautiful. Being critical the service could have been a little more relaxed - especially given the location, when I spend this much money on lunch I like having fun... There is no doubt that this is a truly world class restaurant.
I took my partner here for dinner a couple of weeks ago. The night was magic from start to finish.
The boat arrived promptly to pick us up from the wharf and take us to dinner at the arranged time. Upon arrival we were taken to our table and seated quickly with an appetiser being brought out soon after that. We choose to only have the four course menu, however with the complimentary dishes this ended up being a total of seven.
The chef had done a wonderful job, each meal was excellently prepared and tasted top notch. The complimentary courses were up to the same high standard as the main courses with the chefs pumpkin soup of particular note.
Service was good, with just the right amount of time left between courses. Our water glasses were never emptied, being regularly topped up during the meal. The restraunt presents a warm and friendly atmosphere and the view looking out into the night on the water is also a nice touch.
Overall, my partner and I both enjoyed the evening and will certainly be returning some time in the future
Wow! arrived by seaplane, great views, beautiful scenery. I couldn't possibly believe the food and the wine could beat the seaplane, I was later proved wrong. Had the six courses with matching wines for a sunday lunch. All the matchings were superb amazing food and classy wine.
A truly and awesome experience will highly recommend it to everyone and will definitely be back, can't wait. Thoroughly impressed standout dishes were the gnocci with yabbies and the kingfish with samon. The Te mania pinot noir was too good to be true, just the smell made me feel all warm and happy inside. Well done Berowra Waters Inn bravo!
We went there, on leave for a Friday lunch after a morning walk. It was absolutely fantastic and was considered by the Group as an ultimate treat. Too many comments would destroy the magic. Make time, take a day off and just do it!
We enjoyed a wonderful Friday lunch here. The food was truly exceptional and the atmosphere magical. I would highly recommend as a unique and word class experience.
