Top quality authentic Austrian food prepared by an Austrian/Italian chef (Bernard) which is always dependably good without the ridiculous prices seen in high rent districts of the city. Been there 5 times now and every visit has been a wonderful trip to Austria from the Gosser to the Schweinshaxe. The table staff are friendly and helpful and will tell you if an item has run out before you order which is a pleasant change to the many restaurants who employ idiots (my pet peeve) who have no menu product knowledge. Give this restaurant a go, you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality and price.

Not flash but offers good value at a price. Bernhard has been in this area for some time and attempts to please. Variety is good for a Dural restaurant and we ceratinly enjoy going back. Have been about 6 times and never disappointed.

This place needs some heart and soul. I was excited when I found out that this place was close to home, but what a let down. No atmosphere was the first thing that struck us, too brightly lit.

The next failing was that we were not told of the specials so we didn't get them, some looked good when we found out where they were. The next thing was that as it was a birthday dinner we wanted to take our time and we told them that we were in no rush. A nice delay between entree and main would be ideal.
Well, less than 10 minutes after the entree was finished, out came the mains and we were done in an hour.

On top of that, looks like the kitchen staff had been a bit over zealous with his pre-opening cooking and the place was rather smoky, so much so that the couple on the next table up and left. We went home with stinging eyes. Not rushing back. Disappointed.

The restaurant was fully booked that Saturday night in March 2011. From the very first bite we knew this was going to be a wonderful evening. The bread was warm and just like sourdough in taste and texture. The lightly-carbonated lemonade was lemon in colour and in flavour, reminding me of an old-fashioned pub lemon squash. The roasted pork knuckle disintegrated in my mouth and the accompanying roasted potatoes had a mild garlic taste which was very flavoursome.

The Almdudler is a non-alcoholic Austrian beverage which tastes a bit like ginger ale and is a great palate cleanser. For dessert, the apple strudel was very hot and delicate in composition. The Austrian crepes were light and fluffy. Hubby said the hot chocolate was nice enough to have a second. The location, food and warm welcome all make Bernhard's Kitchen a favourite of First Aid Tailor Made. We eagerly look forward to our next helping of fine Austrian cuisine.

My husband and I went to dinner here about a month ago. I had the Mixed Vegetable Strudel, Creamed Mushrooms and Salad Garnish and my husband had the Twice Cooked Pork Belly with Sauerkraut and Roasted Potatoes. The waitress asked my husband to wait while she checked to make sure they had enough of the pork belly as it is twice baked and they only make so much. Lucky for him they had 2 left. (he was impressed she bothered to checked instead of letting him order and then coming back and telling him "sorry we don't have any of that item left").

Both dinners where very good. My husband ordered an Austrian beer and we brought along our own German wine as it is is a BYO wine only. We both could not resist having dessert. Warm Apple Strudel served with Vanilla Bean Ice-Cream for him & Warm Ricotta Cheese and Blueberry Strudel served with Vanilla Bean Ice-Cream for me, how these were served was as lovely as they tasted!! We even got to meet and talk to Bernard at the end of our evening when we went up to pay for our meal. We are very happy we don't have to go so far out now for Austrian/German food anymore.

Amazing! The food is authentic, the serivce impeccable and we will definitely be returning. Can highly recommend the Bauernschmauss. My only disappointment was that we were too full try their chcolate Palatschincken!

As a lover of good, hearty Austrian food this place is a godsend. No longer do we have to travel miles to get good, fresh, well cooked Austrian food. Pork Knuckle, Kassler cutlets, Schnitzels, Saurkraut, Goulash - all are presented here. The menu has a selection of A la Carte dishes which I have been assured are also wonderfully fresh and tasty, while the specials change frequently and are all real value for money.

This is coupled with a nice winelist plus a selection of Austrian wines and beers - wonderful! We keep going back!
