Overview
Opulent, decadent and visionary, Beluga is a gastronomic delight and a seafood lover's dream.
French-inspired seafood a la carte menu or eight course degustation.
Artfully prepared dishes present a delicate balance of flavours which merge on the pallet, creating taste sensations seldom found in modern Australian cuisine.
Extensive wine list featuring some of the best Australian, French and Italian wineries, complements each dish, at least a dozen are available by the glass.
A stylish ambience rounds off what is expected to be the next big hit on the Sydney restaurant scene.
We went to Beluga recently and were truly impressed with both the food and service. The scallop with avocado creme brulee was a perfect combination as were the kingfish with pancetta baby beetroot and lime air.
We ended the evening by sharing the chocolate ganache....a mistake on my part as I could have eaten one myself. Delicious....and when it is delivered with a friendly smile, what more could we ask for. Will definitely be back.
The four of us had the degustation, it was lovely and very filling! Entrees were the best in terms of flavour and creativity of the dishes - we loved the sugar cured salmon with tomato sorbet. A few dishes were on the salty side but we found that once combined with the sauces, the flavours would melt perfectly together as the sauces tended to be on the sweeter side. A tick on the return list!
I was looking for a spectacular vegetarian meal to celebrate my anniversary. Beluga was one of the very few vegetarian tasting menus available in Sydney (why not more?).
The meal was wonderful - every course a surprise and a treat. How marvellous to feel that proper care and imagination has gone into the vegetarian options (a rare feeling for this vegetarian). Usually I feel cheated in expensive restaurants as the vegetarian option rarely feels like good value for money, but I was happy to pay $250 for my meal (incl wine).
My only complaint is that the food got a bit heavy toward the end, when we were starting to feel a little full. I would have liked a little more attention, but the two staff on the floor seemed a bit pushed to cover the room. A nice quiet atmosphere. St Margaret’s Complex is surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. Bravo!
Interesting food & great presentation, terrible service that does not reflect the prices. I personally prefer less complicated meals, in a more casual environment where the price reflects the experience. The flaws aren't so obvious & don't leave you with the feeling that you've been ripped off. Won't be back.
A friend of mine referred me to this place and I have to give him big hugs for doing so. Every bite was an experience; from the avocado crème brulee (genius) to the chocolate with chick-pea dust for dessert my taste-buds sang!
The service is friendly and the ambience is intimate without being intimidating.
I will definitely be checking out their “Sex in the kitchen” book as I was smiling all the way home…
I cannot remember the last time I was so completely impressed by such magnificent food. The scallops on cauliflower puree with avocado creme brulee was hands down the best thing I have ever eaten. As my newly minted girlfriend said "it was like eating clouds". This dish is part of the degustation menu which I highly recommend. The little desserts at the end are insanely good. I am still smiling.
If you are looking to seduce a potential girlfriend with food this is the place to do it. It worked for me.
I came to Beluga for a date on this saturday night, the duck I had was outstanding. The service was a little slow due to over flow of people but extremely friendly. Will definitelly be back again.
After reading all of the fabulous reviews, we (4) were enthusiastic about trying this restaurant. At first we were impressed with the good location, bustling (but not loud) restaurant with a relaxed and warm feel. Then things turned bad.
The service was near invisible. After ordering we waited almost an hour for entree, and too long again for mains. Whilst I thoroghly enjoyed my lobster crepe, the rest of the table struggled with meagre portion sizes. Mains were disappointing in terms of portion sizes (Beef was tiny, Kingfish was huge) and unfortunatly not hot. The sides were also too small.
Finally, the bill came and were were overcharged. Perhaps it was just a bad night as this restaurant definitly had what it takes but most things that are basic to dining (service, food time & temperature & the bill) were poorly executed.
