Park on Cumberland st near the Glenmore Hotel. Beside the Glenmore hotel are steps which lead down to Gloucester Walk (pedestrian only) continue and find bel mondo on the right. Do not take the second set of steps which lead to Argyle st.
In the heart of sydney's rocks, with views to the bridge and the Sydney Opera House bel mondo is an icon of the Sydney restaurant scene – a dining experience to remember!

We were very appreciative of the warm welcome we received on arrival, as we were the cocktail selections we had at the bar prior to being seated. The staff were very informative and professional, and we were surrounded by beautiful decor and decoratives from the beverage island behind us to semi open kitchen.
The food arrived promptly, even though the restaurant was very busy, and going by the happy laughter and buzz from the tables around us, everybody was enjoying their evening thoroughly. I loved the menu options, as well as the fantastic wine list and will definitely revisit again in the future.

I went to Bel Mondo a couple of Saturday nights ago with two friends. I've lived in Sydney all my life and known of the restaurant for a long time but had never been there before.
Overall it was an enjoyable experience although not as great as I had imagined. Two things tarnished the experience slightly: We were served by many people which I thought was a little strange and one waiter was clearly in a very foul mood and somewhat unpleasant.
I have to agree with a poster below who found the portions of food too small. The entree size (for an entree) was ok, but the main was really tiny, I thought. I had the lamb with mint and pea risotto. The taste was beautiful, just the portion size was way too small. I found myself filling up on bread. An hour later when we got home, we all wanted to eat again. Two of us lived in Japan for a number of years and we both joked that we felt like we were back in Japan again, where you would always have to have dinner before you went out for dinner!
Overall it was ok and I'd probably go back, but I think there are a lot of restaurants with equally good food, better views, more atmosphere that represent much better value for money.

Dined here a few years ago for our anniversary and had a sensational experience. This year we celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary and decided to celebrate at Bel Mondo. The restaurant has become more modern which was ok but a little tacky with the red curtains and the ambience was not as we remembered. The decor seemed a little over the top and not as sophisticated or classy as before the reno.
New beverage bar and service bar was a great addition. Unfortunately, our dinner was ruined by an irate and drunk couple who complained about the food and service and refused to pay the bill. After screaming and shouting and obscene language they tried to leave the restaurant and BM management called the police. I understand this was no fault of the staff (in fact management handled the situation well) but it did ruin our evening.
I feel the remaining diners (including ourselves) should have been offered a complimentary wine/dessert to compensate the noise and distruption to our evening. Apologies were made but no compensation was offered. Food was good but not as outstanding as we remembered from our previous visit.

We visited Bel Mondo for the first time on Valentines Day. They had a 4 course degustation menu, which was lovely. I was very taken with this place as soon as we walked through the door. There was a lovely atmosphere, the food was delicious and our waiter was spot on, without being too over-bearing.
I always give top marks when my wine glass never appears empty, and when it did he kindly let us know that we'd finished our bottle! My only criticism was that each course came out a little too quickly, but other than that it was a perfect evening. Thank you Bel Mondo for helping us celebrate Valentines Day and I can't wait to visit again!
Response from Management:
Thank you and we are glad you enjoyed your Valentines Day. Mention this next time you make a booking.

Took some friends from overseas for dinner. Whether it was because I'd booked a week or so before, or just got lucky, we were shown to a lovely table by the window with Opera House views (a cruise ship left during our meal). Was very impressed by the friendly but professional staff, and the food, especially dessert.
If there was a complaint, it was that the portions were, perhaps, a little small, but I would certainly go back without hesitation.
Response from Management:
Thanks for that and we shall review our portions.

We'd dined here as a group of 6 just before Christmas last month and we had a fantastic experience! Value was great with their $55 for 2 courses special. I'd say their entrees outshone the mains with fresh seafood and solid yet delicate sauce, although mains were also very delicious (and pretty large servings too).
Dessert was awesome (we shared the dessert tasting plate, which had a mixture of most of what was on the dessert menu), milk chocolate parfait and apple and rhubarb crumble were notable mentions! The service was very professional, friendly and unpretentious, unlike many other fine dining restaurants. The only slight let down to the ambience was a large table that was quite loud next to us.
It's in a perfect location high up on Gloucester Walk in The Rocks terraces with views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge (mixed in with some other buildings and obstructions), which you can get a pretty good view of if you were seated nearer the correct side of the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will be back!
Response from Management:
Much appreciated and hope to see you again.

My husband and I dined at Bel Mondo last night and were thoroughly impressed. We had the 5 course degustation with wine and enjoyed every course.
Our waitress was polite and informative without the arrogance of some wait staff. The manager/owner (not sure?) was lovely.
The food was all served perfectly and the degustation allowed me to try things I probably wouldn't be inclined to order as I am often not too experimental when dining out.
The wines chosen to match all five courses were divine and ranged from champagne to pinot noir to roese.
A wonderful romantic meal enjoyed very much by a couple with a young child who do not get to venture out too often as our adventures alone are few and far between we were glad the night was so perfect.

This is a nice looking restaurant and the service was ok as well. What lets it down is the god-awful food.
The chicken was probably the only meat on earth that doesn't taste like chicken. It was billed as "breast of cornfed chicken stuffed with mushrooms..." You can imagine my disappointment when I got chicken loaf, as in processed meat, the indentations were still visible at each the end of the cylindrical roll of processed disgustingness.
Now if I was at a kid's party, there would be no surprises, but at a restaurant charging upwards of $30 for this plate of rubbish, I was kind of outraged. Won't be back and won't recommend. Shame really. Looks pretty. Let me know when they get a real kitchen staff.

My husband and I went to Bel Mondo on saturday before going to a play at the Opera House. We had booked the restaurant, not knowing it and not knowing what to expect and were so impressed with the food and the service we had (we were there at 6 pm so fairly early). My husband had the slowly cooked lamb shoulder which I kept "tasting" from and I had the ocean trout which was equally mouth watering.
Desserts were impeccable (brulee and the night's special: chocolate tart). Great value for money, a restaurant I'd certainly recommend (and have been) and hope to come back to try their degustation menu.

I had a wonderful dining experience at Bel Mondo. The food was exiciting and the service was very attentive. The ambience was delightful as we watched the criuze liner sail away whilst sipping champagne from the ouside balcony.
