Park on Cumberland st near the Glenmore Hotel. Beside the Glenmore hotel are steps which lead down to Gloucester Walk (pedestrian only) continue and find bel mondo on the right. Do not take the second set of steps which lead to Argyle st.
In the heart of sydney's rocks, with views to the bridge and the Sydney Opera House bel mondo is an icon of the Sydney restaurant scene – a dining experience to remember!

We recently had our christmas party at bel mondo and it was fantastic! I just wanted to say a massive thank you to the staff for putting on such a great day for us. Our Christmas party was a blast. The food was amazing and the venue brilliant. Everyone loved it. Your staff and yourselves went above and beyond to help with the organisation, the account and the service on the day. Thank you. Again, your staff are a cut above the rest. We will definitely recommend to others and hope to be back again soon!

First of all, I would have to say that the views from Bel Mondo to the Harbour Bridge and harbour are superb and well worth a visit with interstate guests. The food was also excellent although a 5% surcharge on a weekly for a set menu is greedy but seems to be something that the banks, woops top restaurants seem to be doing these days.
The food was excellent quality with some adventurous combinations such as the beetroot and chocolate dessert. The service was patchy and we were continually filling our own wine glasses. Waiters were professional but I wouldn't say pleasant/ friendly.

I went with 2 friends to Bel Mondo's on a Thursday night. The atmosphere was great and we could have a pleasant conversation while enjoying the views of the harbor bridge. Our food was superb along with the great wine that we sipped on throughout the night. I really enjoyed the scallops as a starter and a nice steak for the mains, the Rhubarb Pavlova just topped off an awesome night. My clients will enjoy this restaurant, so I will be back very soon to introduce them to the delights of authentic Italian cuisine.

Having checked back to see if my original review was posted I saw management's comment. Well we decided to go back and this time in a larger group.
I am pleased to report that this time we actually got some service at our table, although the non-drinkers at our table once again had to constantly ask the waiter to top up their water. For us drinkers our glasses were topped up without delay and further bottles of wine were on offer very quickly. I guess it comes back to simple economics, if it's free expect to work hard for it.
We had two male waiters looking after us, one was charismatic and enjoyable to be around, the other one made us feel like we should be honored by his presence and the women thought he would respond well to being called Casanova. All jokes aside it comes across as arrogance, which nobody enjoys being around.
Once again the food was exceptional and this is what would bring you back at the $49 for two courses. For this price per head we all felt very satisfied, but would struggle justifying the experience if we had to pay the usual Sydney prices. It is only fair that the service level be bumped up but the ambience comes back but the value equation is still there.
**My original review is below for reference purposes at which I scored
Food (9), Ambience (8), Service (1), Value (10). *Please note my value score is strictly for the 2 course $49 winter special.*
What a tale of two halves this restaurant is. Couldn't fault the food, everything was prepared to perfection. With their winter special on for $49 for two courses this is a steal and well worth a visit, if you appreciate table service a fraction above McDonalds.
The food menu has a great diversity of dishes and is well thought out. I read an article recently on the head chef who described the food as "Sydney" or something like that, the ambition being that Sydney is multicultural so the menu should reflect that, and it does.
The wine list is well thought out with a varietal match for each dish and the concept of a bin end page is appealing. Some older options on the list were from good vintages and I felt the wines were reasonably priced for a Sydney city restaurant.
It becomes very obvious very quickly that the result of the cut price menu is shocking service. We repeatedly had to remind the waiter to top up our glasses of water and our request for bread at the table, never arrived. It was almost embarrassing, repeatedly asking the waiter for service.
My lasting thought on this restaurant is that I would go back for the 2 course winter special, although with winter almost to an end and the economic environment appearing to improve, I may not get the chance.
Response from Management:
The 2 courses for $49 is continuing with our new spring menu. Give us another shot with the service, this is unusual for us. We would like to hear your feedback the second time round.

A friend brought my partner and I here for dinner afew weeks ago, I actually had not heard of the restaurant before but so glad I have now. Probably the best value meal I've had in a fine dining restaurant in years. The food was superb and was so surprised when the bill arrived, definitely value for money. Am more than impressed with this restaurant and will be returning soon.

Its an adventure finding this place as you wander around the rocks. Coming down the stairs from cumberland st is easiest. A beautiful space with glimpses of the bridge and opera house. Full to capacity on a busy sat night, so must book. There's also a nice bar area at the entry.
The food was good, with an exceptional pumpkin and mussel soup with cheese tortelini (only one large tortelini, however, you will want more!). The pork chops were tasty though would have preferred more medium than well done and the polenta chips were great. The creme caramel had an interesting combination of flavours with good presentation, though lavendar was not to my taste.
Service was efficient though impersonal. We felt rushed at times because we had five different people serve us. And we also felt neglected when there was a delay to our entree (almost 40 minutes) without any updates from the service. The wine made up for this however. An excellent list. Our glasses were also topped up. Unfortunately, our water wasn't topped up. Perhaps, this was the responsibility of a sixth server?
These comments are only harsh because with a little more this restaurant could be on the way to a chef's hat. Will be back to see how things go. Good value for the rocks.

So I had my Hen's on Saturday night! I know what you might think - drunken, crazy women. We weren't but unfortunately the Hen's party before us was. Everyone in my party was having a great time (admittedly we're from the country and are generally a little loud - neither rude or inappropriate - just loud).
After enjoying a cocktail course and the views we were seated and the trouble started. We were told we were too loud (for a restaurant that advertises Hen's parties) in the rudest possible way (in what seemed like an attempt to get us to leave as we'd already paid more than $1500 for our table).
We were served the incorrect meals, our vegetarian ended up with lamb and one of my guest was served plastic - on her plate, a fist sized piece of plastic. I was appalled and embarrassed for the establishment. Then things got worse!
In order to get over the series of events which had ruined part of my night I went to the bar to order a cocktail and was yelled at by a gentleman at the bar that I shouldn't shout. I apologised and explained that we'd all paid to be there to have a good night. Turns out he was the owner which he boasted about - I said "then only I have paid to be here tonight and you should be helping me".
Unfortunately the Hen's party before us had vomited at their table and 2 of their party - including the bride - had passed out during the afternoon and been carried out.
Their actions were not mine and I paid my money like all of my guests.
We went on the have a fantastic evening after we left Bel Mondo and I will spend a fair bit of time and energy protecting any other potential visitors. If you've had a great experience there I'm happy for you but fingers crossed the restaurant stays as half empty as it was Saturday so they don't last too much longer!
Response from Management:
Unfortunately, we have to make decisions regarding the amount of alcohol
people consume. In our view, some of the members in this party had consumed
too much and were behaving rather badly. We had complaints from other guests
and had to act decisively.
We warned this party that they were in danger of being asked to leave and
further that they would be served no more alcohol.
Unfortunately, this party failed to listen to reason. Bel Mondo is not a
'boozy restaurant'. Very often we have celebrations of various kinds,
birthdays, anniversaries, reunions and so on; in 99% of these bookings are
great; no problem and even the other guests seem to enjoy the celebration;
they provide a good atmosphere in the restaurant.
On very rare occasions though, some parties don't get it and don't behave in
accordance with our market positioning.
With regards to your last paragraph and in particular the last 2 lines of that paragraph, it is a matter of record (and the records are documented) that bel mondo was full on the Saturday in question, this is just another indication that alcohol can distort the facts.
IF you want to celebrate responsibly and have a good time, come to
bel mondo; if you want to get drunk and behave inappropriately go elsewhere.

We enjoyed a lovely meal, felt very well looked after from the moment we walked in the door and thoroughly enjoyed the food. This is a fabulous restaurant that we had actually forgotten about, it was a very pleasant surprise when we went back after a break of several years. I love the ambience and view of the harbor. All the food was delicious, from the amuse bouche through to the highly recommended dessert and everything was well-priced for the standard. It's back on my list!

This place was disappointing, The food was boring, bland and served almost cold. The service didn't have the professionalism of other places, it was very hit and miss. This is one restaurant which should be looking for a new kitchen staff.
Response from Management:
That is some hard criticism. This is not a usual experience at bel mondo (according to our comment cards, and our Good Food Guide review. When did you eat there? What did you have that was served cold? Could you give us specifics please?
