Overview of bel mondo
In the heart of sydney's rocks, with views to the bridge and the Sydney Opera House bel mondo is an icon of the Sydney restaurant scene – a dining experience to remember!
My partner and I dined at Bel Mondo last week, from the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome. The bartender invited us to try a cocktail, I have never tasted a drink so divine and the presentation was amazing.
I started on the parfait, which was absolutely unreal and then the Duck for my main. It was delicious! My partner had the scallops followed by the lamb risotto (which I stole a fair amount of). Not only was the meal beautiful, the staff were fantastic and very accommodating. We even had the head chef come and talk us through the menu! a very nice touch.
The night was perfect - we left our hosts with the responsibility of picking our wines...they nailed it. I can't remember the last time we have had such an enjoyable dinner. We will be back...and will recommend Bel Mondo to anyone and everyone. You would be pressed to find a restaurant like this ( and so affordable ) anywhere in Sydney - let alone in such a beautiful setting.
Recently went to dinner at bel mondo in The Rocks with friends and would highly recommend this outstanding restaurant. The atmosphere was great, the service was fantastic and most importantly the food was excellent. From the entree to the main to the desserts every course was exciting and truly delicious. We will be back.
I had been looking forward to our speacial dinner at Bel Mondo and I was not disapppointed. From the time our party of five arrived we were looked after immediately. We were seated at a window table and drinks were ordered make sure to order some cocktails. Then a lovely surprise arrived an asparagus amuse bouche which was a welcome from the chef.
The entrees were wonderful. The wild forest pine mushroom fettuccini, carpaccio and ravioli were all exquisite. When the mains arrived everyone wanted what the other had as they all looked and smelt great and guess what they tasted even better. The flat iron steak was so tender, the duck fell off the bone, the seafood risotto with truffles left you wishing that you could have more and the soft shell crab and trout ravioli melted in your mouth.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any better out came the desserts Choc foundant and Brioche french toast with banana puree and caramel icecream. The chefs at Bel Mondo are fabulous and the staff made the night an exceptonal one. Even though the restaurant is hidden away I urge you to seek it out. Buon appettito
My husband and I dined at Bel Mondo last Friday night to celebrate our anniversary. An initial disappointment was that the bar couldn't accommodate my husband's drink request as the previous night had apparently been very busy and due to fridge restocking the beer wasn't cold. Other beers were available but not the two or three that were requested (common varieties).
My cocktail was lovely. Moving on to the food, we enjoyed our selections, however, a major dampener was the fact that on delivering our main courses the waiter/kitchen had somehow confused barramundi with steak and my husband was given the wrong dish. His main was then returned to the kitchen and I was left to eat my main and half of the roasted winter vegetables whilst the barramundi was prepared.
There was no offer to keep mine warm in the kitchen or to remake the dishes which was very disappointing. The barramundi arrived a good ten minutes later by which time I'd finished eating and the side dish had cooled considerably. Apart from an apology the waiter/kitchen didn't seem too concerned about this mistake. We left without staying for dessert/coffee as we were rather annoyed. On a noticeably quiet night at Bel Mondo one would expect better and we certainly won't return.
Had a lovely dinner for three last night, our first visit to Bel Mondo. We were greeted immediately and shown to a table next to the window with a clear view of the Harbour Bridge. (Later treated to unexpected fireworks!).
The service was excellent, very friendly and not stuffy. Loved the pan-seared scallop entree. The crab salad and carpaccio were also enjoyed. Gnocchi, trout and barramundi for mains, all excellent and beautifully presented. Desserts, two specials of poached pears and chocolate sorbet, very good. My dessert of apple terrine with honey ice-cream and small mini donuts a little disappointing. Found the texture of the donuts somehow didn't match with the terrine and would have liked a little more of the prune puree.
We spent a very happy three hours there, however, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. On leaving, we were acknowledged by all members of staff, followed by a walk in the crisp night air back through the Rocks. Views across the city from the windows were lovely and I loved the decor.
On arrival, had drinks at the bar, the cocktails looked and tasted amazing. We were then seated at our table overlooking the harbour bridge. The service was great and the food was even better, the chocolate fondant for dessert is a must. All round a fantastic night.
I had my first fine dining experience at bel mondo, and it will be a hard one to top!
arrived in a group of 10, and started with the most delicious cocktails and popccorn! and there was no pressure put on us to take our table until we had all arrived and were ready to be seated.
We all went for the 2 course special ($55): I chose main (pot roasted duck) and dessert (chocolate fondant). The duck was divine, it fell off the bone and was so succulent. The side order of mash potato was without a doubt the best mash I have ever eaten, it was so smooth and creamy, I'm salivating just thinking about it!
The chocolate fondant was scrumptious! the lemon curd was the perfect tartness and worked so well with the fondant and ice-cream. The waiter for our table was fantastic, and made sure that all our glasses were filled, and that everything was as it should be.
Sure $55 for two dishes is a bit expensive, but the food was perfect and it was absolutely worth every penny. I have already told hubby that we're going back for our anniversary!
Yummo! I went to Bel Mondo last weekend for a girls night out and the entire experience was amazing. We opted for the $55 2 course menu which was a great choice. We started off with drinks and cocktails at the bar (cocktails were to die for!) and were then taken through to our window table with spectacular views of the harbour bridge.
Our waiter was absolutely lovely, very funny and very attentive and extremely helpful in explaining the dishes on the menu in further detail. I had the lamb shoulder as a main which was one of the most amazing meals I have ever had! The lamb was so juicy, tender and tasty tasty tasty, it just melted in my mouth and the accompanying pea and mint risotto was just perfect. This dish was absolutely outstanding!
We ordered some mashed potato and vegies for the table and the mashed potato was by far the Best I have ever had, so creamy, tasty and delicious, well worth ordering as a side.
I had the creme caramel for dessert which was really beautiful as well as being presented beautifully along with caramelised banana and the most amazing earl grey scented mascarpone, yum! I would definitely order this again although I must admit the chocolate fondant looked amazing too and came highly reccomended by my other friends at the table so I would probably try that next time.
Being a fancy restaurant, I had expectations of small portions and leaving not quite satisfied but my belly was totally satisfied and full at the end of the night, I honestly could not have fit another thing in so that was a pleasant surprise.
All in all, I had an amazing night and I will definitely be back! The food was absolutely delicious and very good value for the quality you get on your plate.
My compliments to the chef, Andy you are a star!
I went to this gem of a restaurant with a group of friends on Friday night and had a lovely evening. We started the night with some cocktails at the bar. I had the "almost heaven" cocktail and I think they could rename this cocktail heaven as it was delicious!
We were then escorted to our table which had gorgeous views of the harbour bridge. The restaurant is lovely inside and I love how you can see into the kitchen.
Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. All of the staff we encountered on the night were friendly and attentive.
The food at Bel Mondo is exquisite! I had the duck for a main and it was the best duck I have ever eaten. The meat fell off the bone and everything on the plate was so tasty! I then had the chocolate fondant for dessert and it was amazing!
We had the 2 courses for $55 special and for the quality of the food and service it was excellent value. I will definitely be returning to Bel Mondo!
