Booked a table here after a friend recommended this place and I have to say it didn't disappoint. Had an entree prawns and my boyfriend had the angel hair pasta. Then we shared the veal shin with saffron rissoto and the pumpkin and reggiano souflee..they were absolutley delicious.
The service was spot on.. food flavoursome and will definitely be going back again.
What a rip off! tiny portions, expensive wine list, uncomfortable seats. We were so hungry after a $150 dinner (for 2) that we ordered a take away pasta for home and they charged me $28!!! for a take away pasta!!!! $28!!!!!!!!! what a shocker!!
I went to Bei Amici recently again after a few years and with the new ownership the food is hugely improved. Prices and the wine list are reasonable and we had just the most amazing risotto with bug meat and melt in the mouth gnocchi. I highly recommend this as a brilliant local restaurant.
Bei Amici is a local institution in the Darling Point area and after changing hands earlier this year I must admit I booked a large table with a little in trepidation.
Much to my surprise the new owners had not only retained the charm and excellent services but also managed to update the already excellent menu. We all had a blast with a relatively small menu and a diverse range of pallets I was amazed that everyone left with not a unhappy camper insight.
The service from our hosts was happily dictated by our pace, a few late comers etc and nothing was too much trouble. I have recently returned with both my mother and a date. (Not at the same sitting). In summary this is a casual dining experience, with excellent services, a great atmosphere and a delicious and interesting menu relevant for any occasion.
This place used to be our favourite restaurant before we left Potts Point area. After two years we came back to Australia and we made booking there and it's just like many places in Sydney - everything is crispy and confit and lightly something, etc. But food is just average, over priced and we coludn't choose from menu, because there is nothing special. Never come again.
After reading other reviews we were not sure what to expect. We shared entrees of whitebait fritters with cucumber and chilli and calamari with ricotta and pistachios which both were delicious and perfect sized portions, followed by angel hair pasta with blue swimmer crab and spaghetti with meatballs.
Filling dishes beautifully presented both very fresh tasting and delivered 10 minutes or less after the entrees were cleared. The staff were attentive and friendly and the venue is inviting. Cons... A few seats wouldn't appeal i.e. in the doorway and the chair backs are not comfortable, but I'm clutching at straws. Yes, recommended and yes, will be back but will book with more notice, just in case, I have to go back to try a dessert next time.
Good local Italian, but not as top-notch as some of the reviews would have you believe. Angel-hair pasta with crab and duck risotto are both faves, but the meat mains are stodgy and old-fashioned and the desserts are fairly simple. The wait-staff are always friendly, smiling and helpful, but had to deduct points for the l-o-n-g time between courses and the fairly cramped seating arrangements and noisiness of this place. I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here, but friends live down the road which make it an okay choice.
Up from Melbourne for a couple of days, so got the big group together, we voted it the best dinner out together ever! The food was unbelievable, chrissie kept the vino flowing and taught us about volcano-grass eating cows. We ate, drank and laughed all night. Pretty perfect really.
Bei Amici is just want we have been looking for - drop in and get a great satisfying meal with a selection of wonderful wines. I felt like I was in Italy. Really great service and such a nice feel - it has become our local - a place you can take friends to and know that you will have to come back for more. Try the organic calves liver - to die for !!
I had high expectations of this restaurant but they were not met in any way. The service was just okay and our food was pretty average; definitely an overrated restaurant.
