Me and my parents went there for my dad's birthday 4 days ago, my dad kept saying " this place will be great, it changed hands and the name has a good rep". Well, it took 20 mins for our drinks, and we were the only ones there at the time.
I ordered a Corona which came with a piece of orange in it, instead of lime or lemon, I was a bit confused, we ordered fresh baked bread for entree, we only got 2 pieces when there was 3 of us. The waiter could have said something about the size, anyway after all that it took another 1 hour for our mains, me and my dad had the steak, which was rather small for 35 bucks.
My dad was unimpressed that there were no steak knives, the waiter responded " oh but it's so tender isn't it? there's no need for one" don't know what kinda answer that is. Anyway after that we ordered dessert which after another 30 mins was worth it. I had vanilla and banana brulee, only good thing there I would say, but I will not be going back.
After being seated it was 30 minutes before our drink orders were taken. They were subsequently delivered promptly so all was forgiven. We then waited precisely 2 hours for our food, at which point we asked for the bill and left - a first time for us anywhere.
We appeared to be surrounded by other frustrated patrons. The management comments were "it is not my fault, we are just having one of those days". I guess that defines why a large proportion of people who review this restaurant are noting how poor the service is... the indifferent service ethic must flow down from the top. What a shame because it is such a nice venue.
Brilliant! Excellent food and service! I always satisfied my meal at Beach road! Chocolate souffle is the best dessert!! love garlic bread dip with chili oil! Three different sea food meal for one meal are my favorite:).
I was taken to this delightful restaurant for my birthday recently and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I had started with delicious tempura oysters, followed by tender flavoursome grilled ocean trout and a chocolate souffle to die for! My partner had prawns, followed by a delicious scallop dish and creme brulee, which were also beautifully done.
The service was a little slow, but the food was worth waiting for. The cottage atmosphere with open fire made it feel very romantic. Definitely worth another visit, perhaps for lunch as the outdoor area looked very inviting for a warm day.
Bad service spoilt our night. Did not feel welcome and had to wait 20 minutes to give our first drink order. It seemed that looking after patrons was too much trouble. Won't be going back.
What and improvement, since last summer and thank god the owner is back in the kitchen, great flavours of the french mediterranean in the coolest beach house atmosphere. Pricey yes but great value again.
What a let down. This restaurant has really gone down since it changed in 2006. Service was indifferent and slow. The lamb I had was tough and amateurishly presented. Half a glass of wine for $9 , and mains at $33-$38 were bad value. We will not be going back.
Excellent food, terrible service. The food took an hour and a half to arrive, and the restaurant was half empty. We were glared at for ordering some bread whilst we waited, and then it took half an hour from asking for the bill (twice) to getting it.
The maitre d'/ manager/ owner whoever he was just shrugged his shoulders and rolled his eyes when we complained. A huge shame as it's the perfect location, lovely decor, and good food. I'll never go back.
Our group had a long dinner on a busy night before Xmas. Food was good but entree better than main (paella). Service was excellent especially the wine sommelier who was extremely helpful.
