We went to the palace for the cheap steak wednesday. It wasn't as empty as it usually is, but by no means packed. Two steaks took over an hour to come out and when they did they were tough and hardly edible. Many better places to eat in coogee.

I went to the Beach Palace last Wednesday where they hold a weekly 'toss the boss' option in their bistro. There are 10 or so menu options available and the key is to win your meal. I went along with my partner and, unfortunately, for myself, I did not win a free meal. However, my partner won a 300g rump steak with salad. My meal cost $10. The wait line was a little but worth the wait. Such a great vibe within the palace. Cheap meals, friendly, great night out!

This used to be my favourite coogee hang out. Unfortunately, this place has been deteriorating for years. There is a window that has been cracked for weeks without being repaired. The cushions on the chairs outside at the Aquarium bar have not been cleaned since they were installed. Ashtrays are never emptied, tables are rarely cleaned and the service is terrible. There is so much potential going to waste. No wonder the place is always empty.

Balmy summer Tuesday night. No-one's here. We assume its because the backpackers won't pay $30 for a steak. We order a couple of salads. Almost an hour later they arrive. Nothing special. Wouldn't take me an hour to cook it. Can't imagine how slow they'd be on a busy night. Won't be back to check it out. Now I get why it's empty.

Very disappointing meal here. I paid $18 for a Wagyu Burger that had a lump of meat that only covered half the bun, some rocket and aioli. The fries were drenched in salt and were inedible. Treat warily.

We live a few blocks from Coogee Palace, so thought we would try their Friday night pizza special. I have never seen a more comical sad pizza, basically a piece of dough with a few shards of cheese and even less sauce. My partner got five flakes of basil but I got none. I used the bar's complementary Tabasco sauce to make a Tabasco sauce pizza which was at least amusing.

My partner called over the senior staff to explain, and he has obviously been trained to listen to customers patiently, utter nothing, and walk away. If you are not a backpacker, I would not bother with the Bistro. There are so many great restaurants in Coogee. We will certainly never be suckered in by the Palace's specials again!

I've only been in Sydney for 2 weeks but this place on a wednesday night is by far the best value for steaks you'll find for miles! Its $5 for steak and an extra $2 for chips and salad. Good hearty plate full, even my Australian buddy kendal was full and he's from the outback. Only slight downside was the long dinner queue which reminded me being back at school but the speed in which the food came out made up for it! Drink prices here are very reasonable and this place always has a great atmosphere! The views are epic too.

Had a few meals here, all good but the stand out is the lamb salad. $15 - lots of lamb and the beetroot really makes it. Really nice healthy lunch by the beach. Think they've got Fat Yak on tap too!

Great place and right on the beach. I usually eat outside on the larger tables. Great pub food, they can be a little slow and on busy days the food does come out sometimes a little warm but apart from that its great on a sunny day without all the bells.

If you want a beer, steak, sauce, chips and salad for only $8 then this is the place to go on a wednesday night! It's fantastic value for money and extremely good quality for money you pay. I have never been disappointed in all the times I have been. Highly recommend it! I wouldn't say this is a family friendly time to go though and it can be very noisy, but that kinda adds to the fun vibe!
