This is king of the "best food worst attitude" category. Mouth wateringly delicious chinese BBQ dishes delivered with service so abrupt and condescending as to be comedic.
The best peking duck in town. I've given it a 7 for ambience because it is what you expect, nothing fancy, but not super nice either. Don't expect anything more than well cooked Chinese food, at a reasonable price. Tasty.
An old favourite, great food, always open when you need it but I took some interstate visitors for a post-show dinner a couple of weeks ago and was kept waiting *20 minutes* to pay the (quite large) bill, because 'the boss is on the phone', and we thus couldn't use the debit machine which was on the same phone line. Only threatening to walk out saw the problem resolved. I am fairly patient and forgiving, but this was appalling and I won't be going back in a hurry.
About a dozen years past its prime. $12 for a tiny portion of Peking Duck. Never again. Will try the one in Chatswood. $25 for the duck and some san choi bow.
I cannot believe I have never reviewed this place after so many years. I have both eaten in and taken away about a gazillion times over the eons that I have been coming here. I must say eating in can be somewhat disappointing at times with abrupt service if there are only two of you & high prices - $15 for two peking duck pancake entrees - just the pancakes with duck skin, shallot & hoi sin sauce - hmmmmm a bit exxy.
However I have also eaten in as part of large, rowdy, slightly inebriated, post race day groups of hungry punters - in one of those funny private rooms upstairs. In that situation I have never been disappointed - we order a banquet and eat until we are stuffed to bursting. In my honest opnion though: take away is where this place really shines. Go to the street frontage counter - do not go inside the sliding doors of the restaurant. Get half a duck & some crispy skin pork. Take it home. Get stuck into it. It is seriously good. I have never had any problems with the food from BBQ King - it has always been very, very good.
You go and come, but this place still has the most wonderful chinese food. Service is excellent! Prices are expensive, but you are receiving good quality food, especially with the duck and pork dishes.
One place we always like to go back to when in Sydney. Prices have definitely gone up, ambience is a little to be desired, but the food is always wonderful. Peking duck is divine
Peking duck was good, nice and meaty. As was the follow on san choy bau. Bbq duck/pork combo was nice but not outstanding. Chinese spinach with garlic had a very large caterpillar in it, roughly the size of your middle finger. Whilst the staff were quick to remove it and offer all they could in compo, we had lost our appetites. Not rushing back.
