This place is great. I frequently dine here on the weekends or when I am in need of a late dinner. Service is good and so is the food. Although I have yet to try a ..'peasant rice???' Will be sure to ask next time. Overall, great value for great food. Open late and seems like a very clean establishment - considering.
This place is good value. I haven't read all the reviews but language seems to be a factor. I think that they do try though I can see how for non Vietnamese speakers it may pose a problem. This shop serves a good sized portion, two dishes to me and that can be accomplished for under 20$ which is a plus. There is a good range of food but I usually go for peasant rice.
Consistent with its other sister shop in Cabramatta except I usually choose this one for family outing as parking is easier and it is slightly roomier. Similar decor to the Cabramatta shop and yet to spot the difference in food.
Their 7 style beef is quite interesting with its combination of congee, bbq, sizzling beef, beef balls, etc. I have dined here for lunch, dinner and supper and will continue to do so. Payment is cash only but there is an ATM a few meters down.
Service: There have been a lot of bad commentaries on their service. Sure their
English is not fantastic but I find that they do try.
I came here kicking and screaming. (living in Dbl Bay) Imagine a 35yr old man pouting all the way in a car driven westwards and kept it up in the restaurant. We didn't understand any dish and the waitress suggested 2 that people keep coming back for. It was a chicken and a venison dish. The new flavours blew me away like when Thai food first came to Australia. Sorry my description isn't helpful but the food was very special.
I know this area was a commercial dead duck less than 5yrs ago but it's exploded into a mini eating precinct very much like "The Spot" in Randwick so I'm looking for an excuse to go out west now. yum. (I eat out every night and day and think of my next meal after I've just finished one so yeah I know what I'm on about). Just keep in mind the neighbouring restaurant has a similar name and signage.
This is my first visit and I must say I was pretty impressed. The food is good and the service is ok considering the limited English they speak, but they all tried to cope with our demands and were never rude.
The beef fondue was a highlight as well as their soup, very nice indeed. Overall it was pretty much what was expected for the area and I will be back, that's for sure.
Eating at most asian restaurants I was pretty disgusted and disappointed with this one. They were very cheap on using cultery and other dishes i.e we asked for another plate to put food on but they suggested to use the one under our bowls, mind you it was already dirty. The waitress were all rude and we had made our drink orders upon arriving but never came out until we had to ask a third time were we ended up taking it for take away. The food was no as great either. I would have gone to the restaurant two doors down.
When I get really lazy to make Vietnamese wrap dishes (rice paper, vermicelli, spring rolls, pork rolled together and dipped into fish sauce) I come here to have it. The dishes come out prettier than usual but needless to say you don't get as much as what you're really paying. Worse as it is, there aren't any tissues or anything on the table so you have to constantly ask staff for things. Pho isn't all that great. One time my order came out warm and not hot enough, and they wouldn't make me another one or even at least heat it up. It was a disappointment.
The first time I tried pho here ( when they first opened) it was the best, I love it. But the service is so terrible and they bring the wrong dish to me 3 times once. No joke. They are so stingy on the condiments - I asked for satay sauce for my pho and the lady bring it - ok .. and this other lady took it away?? What the hell is that?? and sometimes you have to sit on the same table with other strangers. I guess you can say deal with it but that just takes half the specialty in going out to eat in the first place.
This is one of my favourite restuarants. This is a big thing because having grown up in the Cabramatta area, I've been spoiled by the delicious offerings of authentic Asian food (China Town food pales in comparison, let me tell you). I know what is good Vietnamese food and what is not. I love the food at Bau Troung and the service at is always good (but as with most locals we generally go for the food - good service is just a bonus). Not sure why the first two reviewers have had such a hard time.
The owner always greets us with a friendly smile and the staff always supply my two-year-old with her own bowl of sliced cucumber because they know she loves it. As for condiments, I rarely need to use any because the food is generally 'just right' (I actually hate it when there is a large plate of superfluous condiments taking up limited table space). Anyway, they bring you all you need when they bring out the meal and I've never had issues when I have asked for extra sauces etc. Like any place you frequent a lot, there are bound to be times when the food is not at its usual best. However, this happens rarely and the staff are always willing to bring out a replacement dish. I've seen a lot restaurants open and close in the area and many are quiet - you have to be really good to compete. There is a reason why this place is always busy and thriving.
I always go to this place for my all time favourites - spring roll with vermicelli. However, the services were poor and most important, be careful of some odd dishes. They could be old, over cooked, reheat many times, and the meat tasted a bit rotten eg. Curry lamb noodles (rated 1 for this). They are reluctant to change it or change it with attitude. Most disappointed!!
