Overview of Bathers' Pavilion Restaurant
The Restaurant is at the Northern end of the Pavilion with views across the shark net towards the Heads (the cafe is at the Southern end). The restaurant is comfortable, yet with the feeling of understated elegance. The emphasis is on fresh produce grown by small producers.
After meeting a friend at her place in Mosman, she suggested we should go for Sunday lunch at the Bathers' Pavilion. I had been wanting to come here for some time after reading an article on Serge Dansereau. We were lucky enough to get a table next to the window, looking over Balmoral Beach. I ordered the beef fillet with quinoa, and my friend ordered the barramundi fricassee, we ordered the Barratt Pinot Noir to have with the lunch. Both meals were fantastic, but they did take a while to get served.
The desserts were the highlight of the whole experience. We ordered, the lemon and passionfruit delicious, and the white chocolate and pistachio chantilly, both of which were to die for! Definitely will come back! One of the best restaurants on the North Shore!
We booked in for 8.30 pm on a busy Saturday night, the experience from start to finish. The service was professional, seamless and a delight my partner was treated like a princess, keeps me happy. The Kingfish sashimi was world class (I did work in 2 star Michelin restaurants for several years, so I can testify). Its a beautifully relaxed vibe overall, I will be back soon.
Quite simply the best food in Sydney in a fantastic location. The night we were there the service and food were both top notch. Expect to pay on the high side for what you get, and beware that parking in the area is insufficient on a popular night, especially in summer while Shakespeare by the Sea is on.
A belated review, we went to Bathers on Melbourne Cup day last November. As it was only the two of us, we wanted something a little more intimate even though it was Melbourne Cup day. We didn't want to be allocated on to a group table with strangers as some restaurants were doing. The Bathers Pavillion wound up being the perfect choice. Normal seating arrangements and a full al acarte menu was available.
The food was superb, full of subtle flavours, interesting, well presented and very satisfying. The service was friendly and professional, even minutes before and after the race, we never stopped being looked after! They also had sweepstakes, the race on TV and prizes for best dressed which made it a fun occasion. We enjoyed a long lazy afternoon and look forward to doing it again soon!
Sunday lunch. Degustation menu. Stunning location and sublime food. Course after course of fantastic fantasy. There were several courses that I could have bathed in!
$150 for a degustation is about what you pay in Sydney and I was pleasantly surprised to be quite full at the end of the meal, even after a fruit only breakfast and a very long bike ride in the morning. I would say that each course was at least half the size of its counterpart on the regular menu.
The Bather's Pavillion gets one chef's hat from the Herald and no stars from the Gourmet Traveller in 2010 and I can't understand why. The food was close to perfect (the tortellini with mascarpone, corn, roasted capsicum and olive sauce burst particularly in the mouth!) and as each course came to the table it was obvious that the chefs in the kitchen were really focused not only on beautiful flavours, but also on superior presentation. There were some amazing contrasts offered and we had a wonderful time.
We don't drink alcohol and often as a result we find the red meat dish offered in the degustation at some restaurants, for us, seems to be lacking something, but this was the loveliest lamb I have ever eaten. We watched some truly spectacular desserts exit the kitchen and the one in the degustation was a confection of salted caramel and peaches that defies description.
Now we are not critics, but we really love to taste food and we will try anything and we have spent the last two years really trying to visit some of the best restaurants in the world when we are away and we have really been inspired by some of the biggest names. The meal we had on Sunday would be in our top twenty ever. (In Sydney, for us, this would sit with Becasse, Guillaume, Aria and all three of Neil Perry's restaurant forays).
I have already made reservations to take my parents to the Bather's Pavillion as an excuse to go back in a few weeks!
I took my wife here for her birthday recently, and we were both really looking forward to it, well, we were not let down.
As a picky diner (when you are paying this sort of money) there is generally one or two things that you think could be improved, but to be honest I really could not fault one aspect of our experience that night. Staff were brilliant, food was awesome, setting was perfect.
Never once did we have to call over a waiter for anything. It was like they read our minds (and spied our 1/4 empty glasses) before we realised that we needed something. Food was lovely, and they even peronalised a dessert plate for my wifes birthday! Nice touch. A wonderful experience.
We dined here last night and were very impressed. We both had the degustation, mine with wines to match. The service was great and the chef is a genius. The presentation of each course was flawless and each plate was inventive and cooked to perfection. The wines weren’t mainstream which is fantastic as it’s nice to experience something new (wish I had have noted the name of the pinot gris!).
I highly recommend the degustation menu option. It’s extremely reasonable for the quality of food, location, and talent of the chefs. This would go to the top of my list next time I’m hosting international guests.
Nothing like a Bathers early dinner with the kids. The menu has recently changed and the food is always very good. A little expensive but you really can't beat this location.
Food was fantastic, service was largely good but it was hard to understand what one of the waiters was saying. The Mint apple and pea soup should be scrapped though but the desserts were in particular spectactular. Location is lovely and we will be returning in the future.
Over the past two months we have visited this restaurant twice and I must admit enjoyed both occasions. The first visit the service was slightly better, the waiter was very professional and was not the type to be in your face all evening. The second visit the service wasn't as good. The drinks waitress did do something that annoyed me and that was to take the drinks menu without asking.
We were clearly having wine by the glass so I was not sure why she thought we would not want a second glass of wine and take the menu away. Apart from that the food was good and the location fantastic. The restaurant was busy on both occasions and we will visit again. We would recommend this restaurant.
