Basil Pizza and Pasta was established in November 2006 with the intention of creating a wide range of delicious pizzas and meals that are suited the diverse feel of Newtown and surrounding suburbs. We have achieved this primary goal!

We cater to our eclectic customer base by offering a fantastic selection of meat and vegetarian pizzas and pastas as well as offering true vegan pizzas for home delivery, take-away or eat-in.
Basil Pizza and Pasta has a friendly and inviting atmosphere that is suited to business lunches, families, students, celebrating or just enjoying a great night out with friends.

We also now offer gluten free pizzas!

Me and my girlfriend went to Basil at about 7.30 on a Thursday evening. We ordered a garlic bread, a bruschetta pizza and a small vegetarian pizza when we finally attracted the attention of the bored-looking, rude waitress. She had earlier given us no attention when we walked in, so we awkwardly took a table ourselves. There were about four other tables of people in the restaurant.

After asking the waitress several times when it was coming, the food arrived 45 minutes after we ordered. The garlic bread was one of those foiled wrapped deals from Coles that should have taken 10 minutes to cook, tops, and we paid way too much for the privilege of it. The vegetarian pizza was tasteless and overcooked, and the bruschetta pizza, which arrived a full hour after we ordered, was too oily and the base overcooked. God knows how it took so long, I saw it being made.

The base went in the oven and when it was done the cook scooped the topping on it from a pre-made refrigerated container. The waitress was vaguely apologetic but mainly just seemed bored, and offered no explanation as to why it took so long. Based on many other reviews I've seen, it appears that a long wait is completely ordinary for Basil.

I strongly suspect that the 10 star reviews are planted by staff, as there is no way that this place deserves an average rating of 8.4 stars. Don't eat here.

Delicious pizza. Venue is a little small and can be pretty packed at times. Reasonable service. Great for vegetarians and vegans who are sick of the regular vegie pizza.

Great place to enjoy a meal with friends, the pizzas are delicious and very filling as is the pasta. Portions could be a bit larger but thats to be expected in kings st. Have recommended it to mates and will continue to do so.

We went there this morning for the vegan breakfast. First impressions weren't great. The waiter was sitting texting for about 30 seconds before he decided to seat us, there was only one other person in there and it was pretty dark and quiet (except for the extractor fan) and our food took quite a long time for an empty restaurant.

Having said that once it arrived it was awesome! We had the vegan big breakfast (homemade beans, vegan sausages, spinach, mushrooms, hash browns, tomatoes and toast) and the scrambled tofu (served with everything except the sausages). It was really well cooked and really good value for money.

Will definitely go back (partly because us vegans don't have that many breakfast options in Sydney!). I just wish there was a bit more, ambience.

They have a great selection of veggie pizzas (and a few vegan ones too for those who are interested). So far I've tried the roast veg and the roast pumpkin pizzas. Hubby has had the garlic prawns pizza and loved it.

The food is very good, especially the pizza (I'm Italian and this is very very good!). Service is great and the people are very friendly. I like also the vegan breakfast, u should try it at least once!

Food is amazing esp their acupolco pizza. so yum with the sour cream and guac. Also love the supreme pizza. Spanish waitress is very friendly.

We ordered our pizza online at around 7:20. We did not receive it until almost 2 hours later. We ordered a roast pumpkin pizza, a vegetarian pizza with cheezly and a herb bread. When we opened the boxes a lot of topping had fallen off and was in the corner of the box. Both pizzas had no cheese on them! We would have complained but we were so hungry we just ate them anyway. We also received garlic bread instead of herb bread.

Walked in, was not addressed by staff at all and took waving at them three times, then finally walking over to the counter, to get served. Ordered based on a deal which appeared on the menu (which was sitting on all the tables), but when time came to pay was told that the offer in question was not available as this was their 'delivery menu', despite there being no clear indication that this was the case. Would not go there again.

I love basil, they have amazing vegan food/pizzas which is so hard to find. They cater for both vegans and people who eat meat which is amazing when I go out for food with friends. The staff are always friendly and attentive and its never hard to find a table. Highly recommended overall.
