Winner Restaurant & Catering NSW "Best New Restaurant"
Comfortably sliding into a heritage building in the historical Rocks district, newly launched Baroque Bistro Bar Patisserie is stunning palates with an all-day French menu that offers restaurant-quality breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as well as a delightful selection of pastries to ensure your day ends on a sweet note.
From Monday to Friday, bouillabaisses, steak tartare and truite grenobloise speak out from the blackboard. But let’s not forget the dessert; after all that’s how the Charkos family rose to fame. The Baroque menu not only offers signature French desserts like creme brulee and souffle, but also a selection of truffles and flavoursome macaroons - the perfect accompaniment to a coffee, tea or sticky wine.
Baroque Bistro, Bar and Patisserie has glorious views of Sydney Harbour making it perfect for casual affairs, birthdays, business meetings or more formal functions. To book a table or function, call (02) 9241 4811 or email info@baroquebistro.com.au

I went here a few weeks ago for my birthday dinner at the recommendation of a friend who suggested this place.
Not only was the choice in food severely limited, but it was poorly cooked. In particular, the fish of the day was dry and wholly not flavourful and the gnocchi dish overly chewy and had no sauce! My entire group was underwhelmed.
Worse still, the service was not only inefficient but also outright rude. For some unimaginable reason, the head waitress took a particular disliking to our little group. Her attitude was brusque, disdainful and every time we asked for service(such as more water, or even just to order) we felt as if we were asking for a great favour from her. One can only surmise that her overtight hair bun was giving her a migraine.
Perhaps, in its day, Baroque was a good restaurant, however, the service and food we received there ruined what was otherwise a pleasant evening for us.
Really disappointed, will not be returning.

For our 38th wedding anniversary we thought somewhere special would be to eat at this restaurant. We are local and have been four times previously including its opening month. But something has changed! The menu was very limited. My main course of Flounder meuniere with baby potatoes was oily and bland. The fish was so small I thought it may have been illegal, the baby potatoes, were actually kipflers and the only other accompaniment were oily, burnt croutons.
What ever happened to that "to die for" delicate, yet complex tasting, mouth wateringly delicious tender food that used to be served here in 2010/11?
PS My husband had dry and stringy duck leg, with no sauce and very little accompaniment. The bread rolls were even dry! Went home feeling really let down!

Located in the Rocks near the weekend markets strip and backing onto our famous harbour. We went for lunch recently on a Saturday before a 2pm show at the Opera House. We arrived at 12pm and we were promptly seated by the window. Normally a big plus, however, our table was lucky to get glimpses of the harbour and the sun was pouring right through onto our table. Very hot. Thankfully it didn't take too long to pass over.
We started with a couple of share hor dourve plates and they were really tasty. Perfect way to start what I was guessing would be a fantastic lunch. See my partner had organised her work functions there previously and each time they received rave reviews from clients.
Unfortunately, our mains did not come out for another 45 minutes and making it to our show was becoming increasingly a concern. I asked our waiter (who I must add was lovely and very considerate but she did admit to being new and seemed under the pump) if we were in a position to cancel our mains if they hadn't already commenced cooking but apparently they were not too far away. We decided to stick around and shovel our lunch down.
Mains were just ok. Bit bland I thought but, perhaps, the obvious rush going on in the restaurant was telling in the kitchen. Or, perhaps, the rush for us to finish was not exactly heightening the senses on our tastebuds
I realistically should've indicated we needed to be in and out by 1.45pm and then monitored their reaction so will certainly take that on board next time I try to squeeze in a meal. I was unashamedly excited about going to Baroque but expectation outweighed performance on this day.

Well, it was a birthday treat for me for my 77th so I might have been in a particularly good mood with my son and his female partner but I had a great time. I enjoyed reading the menu and knowing with my long time love of French cooking what to expect from the food. The female wait person was friendly, competent and knowledgeable and was patient with us as we dithered over our choices.
I possibly could have chosen better than the charcuterie as blood sausage is not really a favourite of mine but I sampled my son's and his friend's choices and they were good. My main of skate reminded me just how good fish cooked in butter can be. My son and his friend sampled each other's dishes and said both were good eating. My macaroons for dessert arrived with a lighted sparkler in it and that was nice. I can't comment on whether it was good value for money but it definitely was good value for my birthday.

I was recommended this bistro by two of my friends who had been previously and enjoyed their experience, citing impeccable service and outstanding food. Sadly our large group of 8 (including one of the friends that originally recommended Baroque found the experience very underwhelming).
I've read the other reviews in regards to the service but wouldn't describe it as rude, just incredibly inefficient and bumbling. We were seated, the waiter had no idea about the wines, taking the time before the tasting to look at the label of each bottle and reading out everything on it....sloooowly. The impossibility of getting him to understand that we needed red wine glasses And white wine glasses was like communicating with a special needs person.
I asked about a few of the meals, including an entree of house made cheese and quince paste. I was told it was a very strong cheese yet when we received the dish it was an overly fussy mound of what looked and tasted like whipped butter and completely overpowering quince paste. Some meals were cold (chips, lobster bisque) some were warm (angus steak) and some were inedible (whipped butter cheese entree, floury old kipfler potatoes).
We begged the waiter to leave the wine on the table as the service was more of a dump it and run variety, he refused so I had to get up and refill everyones glass myself.
The decor was great, food was presented well and the service although inefficient was not offensive. Owner-Maybe I could suggest more staff and better training in communication and menu knowledge? I know it's not a hatted restaurant but $900 later, I expect more than what I'd get at an overly busy gastro pub.

This was a horrible place, rude middle management, over charged our group by $240! Food was very ordinary for the price. Never going there again and will be telling anyone that will listen the same thing! Worst dining out experience ever!

My wife and I went for a Valentines night dinner and it was very nice with pleasant service and excellent quality if not quantity fixed fare for the night which was a big test on a busy night. The dessert though is to die for! Coming back for dessert!

This was Another restaurant on my wish list but was a bit wary when I read the reviews here but we had no problems with service, the waitress we had was so friendly and when we were waiting for at least 45 minutes for our desserts, she brought us some macaroons to sample. Even when we went up to the dessert/cake display the lady behind the counter explained every cake to us.
Since I definitely wanted to try dessert, we stuck with mains and dessert. Mains were delicious and I loved my beef cheeks! It looked small but it was filling and well cooked. My husband had the duck which was flavorsome but he preferred my duck.
As mentioned there was a massive wait for desserts but that was okay as we didn't get kicked out at 8 pm, so we had more time to digest and catch up. Unfortunately, my dessert wasn't that great, and I wish I stuck with the cake display. While the presentation was beautiful, I didn't think it was worth $16. Still, great night and fabulous service from all the staff at Baroque!

My partner and I dropped in for coffee and dessert on a Saturday night. We ordered a dessert plate for $20, which included macarons, chocolate and petit fours. The coffee was made well and the dessert was amazing, the dessert plate is definitely enough for two.
The location is perfect, on the corner of George & Hickson Rd, it offers a more relaxing environment when compared to the other cafes nestled in with the bars on George St. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a wait in between coffees and dessert, we had to ask for water and we eventually went inside to ask for the bill.
Our waitress was friendly, but I didn't feel welcome by the senior staff. I think a smile couldn't hurt once in a while. Even so, I think I would consider venturing back to try 3 courses in a few weeks time.
