Having recently moved to the area I'm looking for a new local favourite coffee/breakfast place. Thought I'd give this place a go, small place thought it would be a quaint personal place. Service is absolutely awful, staff have no idea what they're doing and since all staff are dressed in casual clothes, you don't know who's who. Asking to be served seemed like a big issue. Staff are rough, arrogant and unprofessional.
On arriving at Bar Valente, I sat outside at first, thinking that eventually someone would serve me. As this didn't happen quickly, I went inside. I was coldly regarded by the two baristas on duty, as though I was an intruder. I ordered a smoothie, and then enquired about a cake which looked attractive. When I said that I just wanted the smoothie, the barista said, "If you didn't want the cake then why did you ask what it was?"
This would have been grounds for leaving the cafe immediately, but instead I decided to stay. My intention was to sit down to drink the smoothie, but without my permission, the barista proceeded to pour the drink into a take-away cup. I also noticed that the barista was desperately scraping the yoghurt out of a tub. The price was standard. The taste of it, however, was terribly mediocre, it was poorly blended, icy, thin, and weak in taste.
Overall, a very unsatisfactory service from this justifiably overlooked Dullo cafe. Avoid. P.S. Admittedly I had enjoyed the smoothies and coffee here on previous occasions. Who is this new barista who has not a clue what he's doing?
Seemed very short staffed, very small cafe with no bathroom, staff seemed very stressed out and not friendly. Waited a while to be served and it was not busy. Would not go back, especially cafe next door is great.
From the outside this looks like a stock standard suburban cafe, but Valente is certainly the best coffee in Dullo, and challenges many of the Newtown standard bearers close by, especially if you have it made by the regular barista.
The food is honest italian fare (pasta and panini) and is well-priced and flavoursome. The cakes are good too.
