This place has everything, sexy cocktail bar upstairs with pool tables, cozy restaurant with great food, public bar with cover bands & a Moulin Rouge style room in the basement with dance floor. Really cool.
For a pub the food here rocks! The ambience is Newtown but easy enough for everyone. Band nights - pumping; Comedy nights - hilarious. I didn't realise there was a new bar downstairs, Cellar - it's like a Moulin Rouge kind of fell, very sexy.
Service, at times slow but nice none the less. Value for money 100% - great menu, amazing really.
The upstairs bar looks ritzy but is seriously lacking in any atmosphere. Downstairs is somewhat cosier. I miss the old Marly before it was renovated. In its old day it was an awesome hangout with great ambience and a decent crowd. Today, it feels as if you're in Manly, not Newtown. I prefer drinks on the balcony during the day when the staff can be more attentive and the setting is relaxed before the nightime crowds. But overall, I give this pub a wide berth.
No real complaints. The crowd upstairs very often looks like an eastern suburbs pub crowd, like seriously not 'alternative'. Downstairs is a little more unrestrained with lots of drunks and dancing to the cover bands. (The band is different every week but every band seems to sound the same). There is also a downstairs back bar with a DJ and dance floor. It's okay but generally I like the ritzier neon of the upstairs establishment.
Was drinking on the balcony for about 3 hours with friends did not see a single staff member clean our ashtay (4 chain smokers). Looks nice but didnt have any atmosphere.
