Remain undecided about this place. The decor was on the darker side (good) but seemed to lack depth and feel. The bar as you entered had a rather disconnected feel whereas the back bar was more akin to a cigar den (without the cigars).
The absinthe cocktails were good but the dip and bread plate we had to go with it had the most atrocious tomato dip that tasted like whole canned tomatoes. Bar staff were professional, efficient and lovely. The crowd on this Friday night were a funny mix of suits, couples and very average Tom and Harriets.
It's really very dark! If you're looking for somewhere moody and romantic then this is probably your place. Shame that the seats are a bit strange in the back section (particularly once you've got a couple of drinks in you...) Prices were a bit steep ($4 for a Coke!) but to be expected in that area of town...
This place is excellent if you want to unwind the day. The service there is great and the food is a notch better than expected at Bar which was a pleasant suprise.
This is more a review for the lunchtime restaurant, but I'll say that I had a great time the other Friday night, with a great DJ playing, plenty of hot clientele, and friendly staff. New owners I hear.
I had one of the best lunches in recent memory here - the staff were extremely accomodating (definitely earning their 15% tip) - we pre-ordered, all mains, and we each got a free glass of wine and a free broth to start - we had problems with numbers, and even though we had booked the private room (lovely) there was no problem or "waiter's sneers", and the food was exquisite. Apparently there was a temp French waiter from Bathers Pavilion, which was nice! I had the salmon with homemade ravioli and roe - very tasty, and superb textures.
Its a hidden lunchtime treasure and doesnt break the bank, for a special occasion -I spent $30 for a glass of wine, broth and main? Cmon, thats great wherever you are in the CBD!
Bar Europa is a tiny little gem. We booked the middle room for a birthday and everyone had a blast. Staff were Hot and friendly. Don't be disheartened if the place seem dead as the place fills up by 11 - on a Saturday night.
It had an alternative decor to the usual which could be seen as a good or bad thing? The prices were a little pricey, however it is mitigated by the quality that was produced. It is a quiet little settlement which allows you to break away from the usual hussel and bussel many other bars retain. Definitely going back.

An absolutely terrible experience! An over zealous doorman who felt the need to break up a group of three people because he thought one was intoxicated at 9:40pm on a Friday night when the other two obviously weren't? I left in disgust after half a drink after finding somewhere quiet on a Friday night. Bar Europa, you need to do something to re-establish a patronage because what I saw was hardly inspiring for a quality bar (with prices to match) in Sydney for a Friday night.
In the same price range and yuppie scum clientelle as all the stainless steel and beech places on the harbourfront, but without the view. An OK place to meet up, but wouldn't stay for more than 2 drinks.
What a great little spot!! Friends have been telling me about this bar for ages and I finally found it(which is a little tricky). The service was fantastic due to the friendly staff who make you feel like youre in your own lounge room. Great food and an impressive cocktail list!!!!
