Used to come here after hours for Malaysian snacks and passive smoking when they catered to cigar smokers, in the days before the Nanny state put an end to that sort of thing (the cigars, not the Malaysian snacks).
Come here now regularly for the high teas. Beautifully furnished wood-panelled room looking across to the Botanic Gardens, best ambience for afternoon tea of any place I know in inner Sydney.
The waiters/waitresses are impeccably attired and well-mannered but it can sometimes be difficult to attract their attention.

We went for the Heavenly High Tea on the weekend. The food was divine, as was the tea. There was plenty of morsels of yummy food and cakes. That said, the service was dreadful. We waited over an hour to receive our food and had to ask to order the tea. Several other tables around us had the same problem of lack of service. There was also no information or description of the food we were served and when questioned the staff were quite rude and abrupt. We got no answers. The food was yummy though, just be prepared to wait.

My daughter took me on Mother's Day last year to the Heavenly High Tea. The food was mediocre (most of it was left). As the seafood morsels advertised were non existent, I politely called the manager aside and he then produced two inedible extra portions to compensate - a small pot of burnt tasting creme brulee and the other unpalatable due to the amount of liquer in it (it reeked of how dare you complain!)
Because my daughter was so visibly uspet and the day ruined I wrote expressing our dissatisfaction - they did not even have the courtesy of replying.
I continued to follow this up and we were 'invited' back- the food was delicious and memorable. The seafood morsels were exquisite.
In good faith and expecting the same we recently returned for the Heavenly High Tea. It was very average and expensive ($58) for what was offered and again no seafood as advertised. We put our comments in writing, with surprise no response! After much prompting a reply came back which started off 'we have hundreds of people for High Tea and rarely get any complaints.'
Not only does Sir Stamford not deliver (they have now changed their website) but they also represent the very worst in customer relations. Having had no reply after a week I was able to speak to the manager who actually had the audacity to say 'what would you like us to do'- deliver what we paid for would be a good start!
This is more like Fawlty Towers than a 5 star hotel.
No 'sir' these ladies will not be back!

Went here for seafood buffet for lunch with a friend. Not so many choices but the quality of the food? superb! quite a small place but very comfortable and classy. Love the way the room is designed. Had to say the dessert are a bit of challange to eat (the spoon doesn't even fit!) but it taste great! not to forget the staff are very professional and attentive. Great place for relaxing and classy meal.
