I always have lunch at Bar Mattino and the food and service have always been great. The steak sandwich with chips and aioli is my favourite. You can tell the owners really love good food, service is friendly and quick for such a busy cafe.
I was introduced to Sebastian the owner when dining at Chedi Thai in Newtown. I knew that the recommendation had to be good coming from the owner of Chedi. I go to Bar Mattino at least once a week and try to make it on Sundays for the roast. They really deliver way beyond your expectations for a cafe.
This is one of Sydney's best cafes come casual dining restaurant. The daily salad is unbeatable and Sunday lunch not to be missed. Any fish or pasta dish is worth ordering and won't disappoint. It can get busy so get there before the lunch crowd.
Lil Neecy and I stopped by for a sunday brekky recently. Standard foods like poached eggs, mushrooms, bacon, tomato's and avocado prepared extremely well and to our liking with good coffees. You can't go wrong with this place. Excellent value: two full brekky's and 4 coffees for $17.50 each, I just love seeing a big, jolly chef in the kitchen. You know that you will receive good tasting food and plenty of it.
Bar Mattino is the best value breakfast we have found in Sydney. The quality of the food is very high, the servings generous and the staff friendly. If you are a muesli fan, Bar Mattino's home made, toasted version served with poached fruit and stewed rhubarb is teriffic.
The omelettes (enhanced with truffle oil) smell and taste delicious but make sure you are very hungry! Haven't tried the roasts, but know plenty of people who swear by them. A firm Sunday favourite.
Wow! I'd only been here for breakfast a couple of times, but, looking at these reviews, I'll check out the Sunday Roast. Breakfast, by the way, was excellent. I'm a big mushrooms on toast fan, and these were some of the best yet. And truffle oil isn't cheating if it tastes this good.
Best Sunday roast I have ate anywhere in the world - be hungry!! The breakfast is also fabulous. Now regular Sunday roast goer's - a pure treat and better than any mother's!!
Great value and service, BYO you can not ask for more except maybe it to open nights and Saturdays but then chef must have a life as much as I need to maintain waistline.
Sorry... I must have missed something here. I saw all these great reviews, but when I rocked up I found something quite ordinary. The place is quite small, my partner and I got politely hurried out when another couple entered in and there weren't any other available tables. It does have a nice quiet and clean ambience here though, but we did come out smelling of food smell on our clothes, which I absolutely loathe in any eatery.
