Love the American inspired cuisine, fit out and atmosphere of this 'joint', better still love that I don't have to spend 21+ hours on a plane to experience it! I don't get to Bar Contessa anywhere near as often as I'd like, however, I've never once been disappointed and, perhaps, that adds to my appreciation of the fabulous food and service Bar Contessa has to offer.

Whether it be their fabulous Corn Fritters or Brekky Burrito for brunch, (particularly after a big night out), their sensational Chilli Dog (better than any Chilli Dog I've ever had in the US), their mouth watering Burger (with a difference) served on a Brioche bun...these guys simply never get it wrong.

Service with a smile is an understatement, the warm and friendly staff at Bar Contessa really complete the experience. In search of casual dining with a difference, we recently dined there with a business associate,...Bar Contessa has now set tongues wagging as far as Central Italy. Looking forward to getting down there again soon for my next fix!

Had an amazing home-made meatball linguini that was made to perfection. As satisfying as it was, my eyes still wandered to the mouth-watering Tiramisu with the unmistakable Frangelico after taste. Not only was the food beautiful, the smiles, friendliness and service of the team at Bar Contessa did not miss a beat either. My whole family loved it and we will be back for dinner again. Also been there for breakfast and the "Rosa's Breakfast Bruschetta" was very healthy and delicious. See you again really soon guys : )

Great cafe, simple, consistent and to the point. On a recent trip to Contessa, the new decor and nut and bolt menu has left me in a state of organic. Not to sure about where this cafe will end up.

We called in late on a Sunday arv and were told that they were about to close the kitchen but were happy to take our order. So as not to muck them around we ordered pretty much the first two items we saw on the menu - italian meatballs on sourdough and a B.R.A.T. Both were sensational! The coffees were great also. Will definitely go back!

Busy little funky cafe in Balmain. Went for the first time this morning after driving past it every day for months now.

Great breakfast selection, very nice coffee and pleasant and efficient service. Couldn't ask for more.

Only slight comment is that I feel the menu is a little over priced, however I will be back. That pancake stack was delicious!

Can't believe I found a place in Balmain that are completely ill equipt to deal with prams and high chairs. No chairs and have to move furniture to get pram in. Apart from that the food was enjoyable. But if you can't get in or out you won't go back.

A quick Sunday lunch stop, which included a meatball panini and a club sandwich. Food and service were good, and there was a nice laid-back atmosphere to the place.

My friend and I dined at lunch and chose pastas with garlic bread. The food was really tasty and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately my penne contained a hidden piece of wire scrubber which lodged in my throat. Thankfully I managed to cough it up and the waitress came to see if I was okay and to offer an apology and another meal. I told her that I was okay and said that I was happy to continue with the meal I had because it was delicious.

Then the owner approached me to offer a very 'defensive' apology which left me feeling as though he thought that I had staged the whole thing to get a free meal. (Which, by the way, was not asked for nor was it offered) I was just so relieved that I didn't have to go to hospital. Despite the good food and excellent service, I will not be returning.
