Bar Cleveland Surry Hills, Sydney

Though recently renovated, the Front Bar retains the original heritage features of the old Cleveland Inn. The interior designer worked around the original 1912 wall tiles, ceiling coffers and art deco features, successfully marrying old with new. With a unique use of black he has created a dramatic, sexy atmosphere.

By day the Front Bar has a relaxed atmosphere, with its large windows offering views of the vibrant life on Cleveland and Bourke Streets. As night falls the bar comes alive as locals and eclectic groups of nightlife lovers arrive.

The sleek, U-shaped bar is extensive, ensuring that even on the busiest nights you won't be waiting long for service.

The Front Bar boasts a wide range of bottled and tap beers, the latest cocktails and a magnificent Electra espresso machine for caffeine enthusiasts. All of this, as well as an appetising range of meals, are served with a smile by the friendly staff!

Had an outstanding meal here a few days ago. Service, ambience and music were all a bit better than you'd find elsewhere locally but the food was well above expectation levels. Worthy of a 4 out of 5 schooner award if ever there was such a thing.

Had my partners 30th there. Was told I would be able to project photos on the wall and have own music. Not only were the bar staff rude when I was setting up, but the bar girl on the night was rude and obviously hated her job. On the night was told that we can't project photos as they didn't bring equipment and that we would have to pay $5000 to play own music. (what the?). I had emailed the manager several times prior to make sure this would all flow smoothly. He just happened to be off on the night.

Emailed several times after the sad event and got very slack delayed replies from management which showed they obviously don't care. Until I was asked by director to fill out a routine survey on my experience. I let loose and was then offered $200 finger food, which is just spring rolls etc worth about $30 to them. I will never set foot back in that place again. Shame, as I thought it was pretty cool prior to getting to know the place.

I had a great birthday party upstairs, then a few quiet drinks outside. Overall nice pub, great sitting outside on Bourke St. Nice to have a late night pub in the area but gets very busy after 11 pm.

I had a party there and it was awful. Catering was expensive for what you get, cheap spring rolls and toasted supermarket turkish bread. I asked for a bar tab of 500 which they blatantly ignored and didn't stop, like I had requested until it hit $700. I had requested beer and wine only, but the staff ignored this too and served tequila shots to anyone who asked.

I brought cupcakes for a birthday cake which they brought out in their boxes and dumped on the table. Overall I was very unimpressed, the service was shocking, the food was expensive and the staff clearly can't count. Shocking. I will never go back.

Quiet in the daytime but busy and noisy at night. Food is good but maybe a bit pricey for what you get but always well cooked, tasty and fresh. Cocktail happy hour list bit disappointing but generally okay pub, bit blah and non descript.

This pub has retained it's old world sharm yet once inside you have a tasteful addition of the modern to compliment it's past. Good selection of good value meals without the pretentious ho ha that goes on at other venues. A great place to hang out. Get in early to miss the surge at midnight.
