Overview of Banjo Paterson Cottage Restaurant
WELCOME TO 'ROCKEND'
Part of our rich colonial heritage.
Banjo Paterson Cottage Restaurant operates from a beautiful sandstone building dating back to the 1830's. Classified by the National Trust, "Rockend" is where A.B.'Banjo' Paterson lived as a young man with his grandmother.
Situated within 5 acres of parkland the restaurant is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens overlooking the water, making it ideal for garden ceremonies.
Old-World Charm. Sweeping Water Views.
Immediately below the cottage, on the foreshores of the Parramatta River, is a substantial tidal jetty suitable for all types of boats, also allowing access for water taxis which is a lovely way for the bride & groom or guests to arrive or depart.
The adjoining car park has room for over 50 cars.
We look forward to your visit.
My husband and I had the pleasure of eating at Banjo Paterson's last night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious. We loved every dish ordered and the seered lamb and spinach risotto with fetta melted in our mouths. Our waiter was more than accommodating sharing jokes throughout the night. The cottage provides a cosy intimate atmosphere. A special place to visit.
My partner and I visit this place regularly for impromptu romantic evenings out.
I love the food which is always hearty and filling but imaginative, and the service which is attentive, especially if you are lucky to get one of the waiters who has an array of (sometimes repeated) jokes. I recommend this place wholeheartedly to all my friends, it's a really lovely way to spend an evening.
My partner and I dined here one Saturday evening and we were highly impressed. The restaurant is in a gorgeous old sandstone house, with a number of smaller adjoining rooms giving it a lovely, intimate feel. The menu was enticing and the various BP poems included were a joy to read. We had a wonderful table (No. 45) with a fantastic view.
The food was delicious, the ambience very special and without doubt this restaurant deserves the award for the best waiters. They were all very attentive, highly efficient, with friendly attitudes and they all had fabulous sense of humours! Bookings are essential and highly worthwhile, as a night at Banjo's is truly delightful.
Entrees were excellent. Had the salmon gravalax and peppered roast veal, really nice. But was disappointed by the main, the grilled seafood plate with squid ink pasta, a little bland. It needed a sauce for the pasta and some chilli or lemon sauce for the seafood.
We have been to this restaurant a few times over the years and have always been impressed. The setting is beautiful, the parking easy, the waitress was friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. We were with a party of eight who all enjoyed their meals. I had the quail and the souffle and they were sensational.
From the moment I drove up to the restaurant with its own parking bay, and saw the beautiful sunset on the horizon I was impressed with this restaurant. Only having a 3 day old reservation was no handicap, as we were seated at a window table with a great view.
The food is an absolute credit to the chef, the preparation and quality of the food is impeccable and the end result is a juicy cut of meat which softly tears away with a gentle pull of your knife. Presentation of the dishes was nothing spectacular, but portions were generous enough to compensate.
The wait staff (the maitre d' in particular) were particularly talkative, always willing to contribute an anecdote or two with each order taken. The effort was appreciated, even if the jokes themselves were corny. Aside from him though, it was at a few points difficult to catch the eye of the other staff (only saw one other) for assistance, perhaps, increased numbers would bode well.
In summary this establishment is a rare find amongst equally rated restaurants in its area, and thus a heavily underrated restaurant definitely worth trying.
We came here 3 years after we had our wedding reception here and the Manager recognised us immediately. We ordered champagne and were encouraged to go for a walk through the gardens before ordering our meals.
The oysters with gazpacho and parsley puree were so refreshing and tasty, especially on a warm evening, and the mains were filling and comforting. The desserts were excellent except the chocolate cake that came with the chocolate trio looked a little like a mini muffin and was a little dry.
The service throughout was very friendly, with the waiter recognising us too and recalling details of our reception. Everything flowed well and they were obviously very pleased to see us come back. The only flaw was that we had to top up our own wine, but they are small rooms and so it is not possible to have a waiter in there at all times.
The ambience is great, location is tops and it feels so homely.
I went here for the first time last night and waited in a sitting room with an open fire for my companion to arrive. The waiter hung up our coats and took us to a table by a window which would have had a very pleasant view of the park and river in daylight.
There was a large function in another room but we heard no noise coming from there. This is a very popular venue for weddings and business functions as there is ample off street parking and it is in very pretty setting.
The food was very good and there were no extra charges for bread rolls or side dishes. The main courses did not need any accompaniments but the waiter did bring freshly cooked beans. Entrees are around the $20.00 mark, mains average $36.00 and desserts $16.00. We only ordered one glass of wine each and paid around $10.00 a glass. My friend had brought wine but they do not allow BYO.
The waiter was excellent and we overheard his suggestions of entrees to an adjoining table, after they told him which mains they had selected. When we were leaving he asked us to wait by the open fire in the front room while he fetched our coats.
