The veal dishes are delicious but small in quantity, do not bother with the entrees as the main meals are a couple dollars more and better value. Also, do not take your wifes, or girlfriends to this place, the male staff (except for the friendly dark waiter) will be perving at your partners and exchange numbers with girls having their hens night parties. Sleazy service coupled with average food. A table of females would be best looked after.
Love this local restaurant. They are kid friendly and always do a special order for my picky child. A family favourite with us. The food never disappoints and the staff go out of their way to make you feel like one of the family. Service is always good considering the amount of people that come and go especially on a Friday and Saturday nights.
This palce is just fantastic. Went here for a birthday one year, and we had the rooftop terrace with fairy lights & thankfully, no rain. Despite being way out the back, about as far from the kitchen as possible, and there were 25 people in our group, the service was perfectly paced, ridiculously huge servings on the banquet meal, and the quality of food was unreal!
If people compain about the pizza being thin or bland, they obviously haven't travelled outside Australia, as we have pizza in this country, Stars at GiGis does the most amazing fresh pizza with incredible ingredients, and with cute names (aquarius, gemini, etc.).
I truly love this place, and it seems that the people that are bagging it out in other reviews are either too uptight, in a rush, or looking for "Australian" pizza, not the real deal. Definitely try it! The service is lovely, and although you won't rush-in-rush-out, that's not what you go here for!
I rate this restaurant above average to very good, its traditional Sicilian style pizza. One thing that is important is that it is still fully family run, the quality is consistent however their prices have gone up the upper end and there is no other comparison down Balmain. Unless you like that gourmet style pizza. They spend a lot of the afternoon preparing which you don't see that often anymore in Pizza estab.
Dined her with my parents in Jan 08. The food was great and the serves huge. It was value for money as it is not a cheap place to eat. Service was friendly and we had decent breaks between meals, didn't feel like they were trying to hurry us out.
At first I was impressed by the ambience, however after leaving I was actually quite angry. An appalling wait for food - at least 45 minutes between each course. Food itself was okay but nothing to write home about. However, the portions of food after such long waits made my blood boil. Paid $40 for 2x Appletisers, 2 pieces of thin, boring pizza, a fifth of a plate of somewhat cold pasta, and a little bit of salad at the start as an entree.
What's more, though I wasn't tempted - it was quite clear that the only thing that the waiter and waitress were pushing was the serving of drinks. 10 minute wait to be asked if you wanted another drink, but at least a 45 minute wait to even get a glimpse of a tiny portioned, luke warm, and completely unsatisfying food.
Quite frankly, if I could have rated the value and service at zero, even then I would have felt as if that wasn't quite enough to portray the experience we had.
A terrible dining experience.
I can't believe that Stars has such a mediocre rating. I have been coming here for years and the food, service and staff are fabulous. The staff are always accommodating, attentive and friendly - never ever had a bad experience there.
I really love the heart lollipops that you get at the counter! A cute touch.
