#1 Mexican Restaurant in Sydney (Urbanspoon.com) Winner of the Chopping Block 2!!! Highest score ever given by the critic for both seasons. 4.5 out of 5 stars awarded!! "I could marry the Mole." Baja Cantina opened its doors in May of 2006. It was the Chef/Owners vision to bring quality California style Mexican food to Sydney. Backed with 17 years of working with great Mexican chefs in California and all over the US, he has aquired the skill and knowledge to deliver authentic and fresh Mexican cuisine. Tired of too many Sombreros, but unauthentic Tex or Aussie Mexican food, Baja Cantina was conceptualized. With the only authentic Tamales, Baja Fish Tacos, home-made Mexican Chorizo, Carnitas, and real Home made Refried Pinto Beans in Sydney, if not Australia, we aim to satisfy your Mexican cravings. The Chicken Mole, Nachos and Fish Tacos were recently featured during filming of The Chopping Block 2, to rave reviews. The beer garden in the rear will also delight, nothing like it in Sydney or any other Mexican Restaurant. Come give us a try, we promise to remind you of your last Mexican fix over seas, whether in Mexico or California. Best Mex in Sydney!

Ate here for the first time tonight. Food was great and the service good. Had the mixed dip platter with corn chips for a starter, which was phenomenal. For a main I had the Chicken Sulza which was a creamy, cheesy delight. My friends had a steak burrito and one commented that it was one of the best burritos he's ever had and he's had a lot!
My partner had the Chicken Mole which he loved. Between the five of us we had the shared starters, 5 mains, 3 jugs of beer and a jug of sangria (yum!) and it came to a very reasonable $35 a head. Will definitely be returning to try the other meals that sounded just as promising.
About the only disappointing aspect to the evening were the other tables sharing the outdoor tent who continued to smoke the entire way through our meals, despite being asked not to by staff. I'd suggest to Management that they either make the tent non-smoking and enforce it, or don't seat non-smokers in the tent.
We ate at Flying Fajita sisters a few weeks back and although the food was nice, the drinks were pretty tragic and it was more expensive. Baja will be our choice of Mexican in Glebe.

We went here for an early dinner on a Friday night before a show at a pub around the corner. I had read the variety of reviews, some with extreme praise and others with disappointment and thought I would risk it as I had had a positive experience here about a year ago.
We arrived just after six and were seated by a friendly and helpful waitress. We ordered some sangria and the waitress suggested which beers the boys should try. The drinks arrived promptly and the sangria was delicious and fruity. We thought we should order quickly as my experience with Mexican is that it is cooked to order (i.e. baked or grilled) and can take some time to prepare.
Not at this place as incredibly our food arrived in less than five minutes, which caused some concerned which was justified when I cut open my Chicken Sulza and it was stone cold in the middle, as was my partners Chicken Enchilada. My friends ordered the chicken mole and chicken fajitas. I was told the Mole was average and the Fajitas were nicely flavoured but came out in a big unappetizing lump on the hot sizzling plate.
The attitude and service of the waitress was great, as was the sangria, however, that is where the positives ended. We will not come back.

My friend and I discovered this Mexican after an evening talk at Syd Uni. We were pleased as the food appeared fresh and tasty, plus there was a wide selection for reasonable prices. I'll be going back next week!

Went there for a birthday party with a large group. Staff were accommodating, and there was a pretty good selection of beers. Had the masa boats as an entree (not bad), and the Chimichanga as a main, but found both bland. I asked for a hot salsa to go with the meal (I appreciate a good, spicy salsa), and was given a salsa that was barely more than mild. When complaining about it, I was told that they don't do spicy salsas because they don't want people complaining that the meal is too spicy (it's Mexican!).
I found the whole experience reasonably disappointing. If you want good Mexican, skip this place and go somewhere else, about 5 doors up Glebe Point road.

It took us a long time to get menu's because I think they forgot about us, and at the end the waitress forgot we wanted our bill, but they did it all with a smile. The food was fairly simple but very filling and tasty. If you're expecting something radical and different, don't come here, but if you want a good value, warm, fun meal with friends, then this is the place to go. I'll be coming back for sure.

Hola!
Just ate here tonight & yum yum yummo! I'd always wanted to try it but friends who'd eaten there said that the food was very 'Tex-Mex'. Well actually it's 'Cal-Mex' guys (California style mexican) & it's awesome!
The atmosphere was fun not tacky, the staff were helpful & friendly, the service was quick & I was really impressed with the food.
My boyfriend & I shared a nachos, chicken enchilada & a chicken chimichanga & the portions we so generous we only got through half of our mains. It's excellent value, only ended up costing us $34.00 for the two of us.
Definately the best mexican food I've tried in Sydney (and I've tried alot!). Cheaper than Flying Fajita Sistas & seriously just as good. I'm going back next week!

I went here for dinner with my BF on a Friday and it was by far the worst experience. The setting was pleasant but the service was atrocious, although this might be misleading since we barely had service. We were seated at 7:20 pm and our order was taken at 7:55 pm. We ordered sangria, 1 entree and 2 mains. We ended up getting the sangria and 2 entrees that we did not order. The nachos looked like they were dragged out of a swamp.
We were then told since we received the wrong order we would only pay for our mains and sangria, but not once thereafter did anyone attend to us. At 8:45 we gave up on expecting our mains to come and left. The only poistive thing about the night was that we were not charged for the sangria or the entrees which we did not eat. Would I go back to this restaurant? Sure, but there would have to be a gun pointed to my head. What could you say about a restaurant where you have to go to McDonalds for a cheese burger meal afterward?

My partner and I ate at Baja Cantina last night and left more than a little disappointed. Briefly, we listened unwittingly to the waitresses' discussions which probably could have been conducted away from the tables.
We asked for the ceiling fan to be turned on so as to relieve the heat in the restaurant, and after a shared entree of corn chips and dip we received our mains. Both the Chicken Mole and the Chicken Sulza arrive extremely promptly, which can sometimes be of concern and in this case certainly was, as my Chicken Sulza (enchilada) was cold inside.
We informed the waitress who then rushed it back to the kitchen and returned 5 minutes later with a hot one.
I obviously wouldn't expect to go to a restaurant and not pay for a meal, however if I were the restaurateur I'd be doing my best to make up for such an embarrassing 'mishap', be that not charging for the dish or something as simple as providing a drink as a good gesture.
Disregarding the cold food, I'm struggling to find anything about this restaurant that exceeded average. The food was bland, the environment tacky and the overall experience, well, average.

My BF and I love this place! I love Mexican and this is easily the best Mexican food for taste and value that I have had. I love the Nachos and could eat them every day for the rest of my life and be happy. The chips they use are fantastic! Handmade and so deliciously crispy. My BF always gets the make your own Fajitas and never leaves hungry. Great place, highly recommended.
