Arrived at 12pm for late brunch - vegetarian toastie and homebaked beans and toast. Toastie looked basic compared to its description on the menu. Beans were definitely not out of a can. Lovely Badde Manors blend chai tea and soy coffees. Service friendly. If you can, sit near the open window for the winter sun.
Note that the (expanded) lunch menu starts from 1pm so don't arrive for lunch before then!
Badde Manors has a combination of tasty (sometimes extremely tasty) vegetarian food, great service and a cosy atmosphere. A new chef or new management seems to have lifted the game on the quality of food, and now everything is to quite a decent standard, but highlights including the Schnitzel, Tofu and Lentil Burgers, Bagels, and Lasagne, all of these are well priced.
The desserts are on the expensive side but are still reasonable considering their high quality. The breakfast menu is also good but the vegan option tends to let them down. All their coffees and teas are good, but their chai is particularly special. In terms of service, I've found that the night-time staff are usually much friendlier and knowledgeable than the day-staff, but in general are quite chirpy and helpful.
In the winter months, it's always nice place to go and warm up to, and the fact that it is open almost all day is always a bonus. I've never been to a better vegetarian cafe.
Even though I am not local to Glebe I am a regular here. I love the ambience, service is usually quick and friendly and the food and drink is great. I particularly recommend the bagels, which are pretty good value for money, the dips are great and the frappes and chai are amazing. The chef's salads off the specials board are also usually fantastic, too.
I've taken a lot of friends and family from interstate here for breakfast. They all love it, even the non-vegetarians. It's cute and can get a bit too busy but it's the closest I've found to a Fitzroy Street/Melbourne ambience in Sydney.
I have been here many times. The food is good but serving sizes can vary. Therefore, the serving size you get depends on whether one can decide if eating here is good value for money or not. I agree with many other reviewers that it would be great to see this place upgrade to an organic and fair-trade coffee, as many of the other cafes in Glebe offer these types of coffee and hot chocolate.
I also agree with others that this place makes great pots of chai tea. I have only ever had a 'badde' hot beverage from here once. It was a soy dandelion and it tasted a little salty (?). Perhaps, it was the soy milk.
I have always found the staff to be pretty friendly and they know what's on their menu and what the food tastes like, which is always very helpful. Desserts are pretty yummy, food could be priced a little lower, but I suppose things are a little bit more expensive when they are home-made.
I'm a regular despite having moved away from the area. The menu is extensive, all vegetarian. There's no soft drinks but coffees and fruit juices and smoothies etc. The food is always good and good value. Of the at least twenty times I've been, I've had bad service only once and that may have been down to an individual staff member.
