I'm a regular despite having moved away from the area. The menu is extensive, all vegetarian. There's no soft drinks but coffees and fruit juices and smoothies etc. The food is always good and good value. Of the at least twenty times I've been, I've had bad service only once and that may have been down to an individual staff member.
I'm not a local but am a regular. I've been going to Badde Manors for years because they hands down make the best Chai. I've tried heaps of others but nothing compares to Badde Manors Chai. Love the relaxed, quirky atmosphere, the french toast, the poached eggs, the sesame seed scroll. The service is also relaxed but it goes with the charm of this place. Perfect for a late Sunday breakfast. My only suggestion would be to upgrade from Vittoria coffee.
I like this place, it's cosy even though it's small and sometimes it takes a while for service to come serve you. I've only eaten dessert here but it's nice and that's a good enough reason for me to come back for more.
It was a nice quiet Sunday on the day we visited, but I found the waitstaff polite and attentive and really quite enjoyed my Vegan Breakfast. I don't know if this place has changed hands, but it does seem to have improved from the over-full over-cool place I occasionally went to years ago.
Been coming here for four years. Located in the lovely Glebe, this place offers amazing atmosphere. The decorations, the furniture, the pictures on the wall, and the music blend together perfectly to create a relaxing and friendly place. I keep forgetting that this place only serves vegetarian meals. I mean they have delicious pastas, focaccias, nachos, great coffees and cakes, and they have gelatos as well.
Cakes are great, especially the sticky date puddings. This place opens until midnight (2 am on weekends), and it is even open on holidays (surcharge applies but oh well). The open seating area is lovely on warm sunny days or during the nights. Overall, a great place! Oh, and on saturdays the glebe market is only 2 minutes away! More reasons to come!
I guess I slowly have become a regular to this place, despite being a completely vegetarian menu, this meat-loving reviewer has to admit that the food on offer is quite decent and tasty. The coffee better than average. Cakes are always a good decent drawcard for that late night coffee and cake fix. Reliable all rounder cafe. Perfect if it served meat dishes too.
The vegetarians food here is yummy, and they have some really nice cakes and slices (although these are a bit overpriced). However, the service is pretty indifferent, the wait staff aren't very friendly and it's hard to get their attention, perhaps, partly cos the place is so busy, maybe they need more staff...
I am judging this based solely on a single cup of coffee. After reading the reviews below, I was running around city trying to find coffee between 11:40 and midnight. Eventually, I got to Badde Manors, which, actually looks like the pictures of their website except a LOT smaller and actually smells like what its name suggests (cosy old style cafe).
Ok the Vittoria coffee was a real put off for my first impression. I can honestly say, I'm a software engineer (meaning we drink 2+ cups of coffee a day, 365 days a year) that never had a good cup of Vittoria til now. The best Vittoria coffee places rarely manages to overcome the big "robusta bitter" and even then, doesn't pull it off completely despite the huge sign saying it's 100% arabica.
Badde Manors actually managed to surprise me because for the first time Vittoria actually tasted like arabica. It wasn't the best coffee I ever had (no one can beat Single Origin Roasters but it was decent. Will be back to try food.
I am a regular, we rediscovered Badde Manors about a year ago and now eat there at least once a fortnight. It is great to go somewhere where we can eat anything on the menu. The blackboard specials are great. Fab atmosphere. Brekkie or brunch on the weekend also a great experience
I'm not surprised by the mixed reviews for Badde Manors, as the experience really can be a hit or miss. I've never been disappointed by the food, as it is always tasty and ample in serving, not to mention fairly inexpensive.
However the service really does leave a lot to be desired. It really depends on where you sit and how busy the place is. Do not sit out the back in the courtyard as you will probably be ignored. Many times sitting out the back, I have had to wait 15 minutes or so just to order or be acknowledged, but I figure that it really is worth the wait. Coffee quality varies and depends on the barista of course but generally is quite alright.
Overall, a nice, cosy place and quite easy to get to. Service is not fantastic but in my opinion the food makes up for that.
