Beware of new management and new staff - they seem to think it is ok to served microwaved scrambled eggs and chat potatoes which were seemingly made the night before also re-heated in the Microwave. Easiest the worst breakfast I've ever had in Sydney. And so much for the service - the guy seated us (without menus) then ignored us for 10minutes, and I ended up calling over another waitress - and then the guy apologised saying that it was just so 'hectic' (there were two other occupied tables in the whole place). The old management had great staff and ok food and deal with a packed cafe at all hours, now these people are driving it into the ground.
New owners are wonderful, the service has really moved up a notch, very friendly and efficent, the food is delicious with large servings and a great variety, I would definitely recomend it to anyone. It is BYO also and has great ambience of a night.
I regularly enjoy a cup of coffee here when in the area. It's served hot and strong, and like tar -- the way I like it! I've tried their breakfast which is usually great though the quality slips on their busy days. Similarly does the service.
I tend to avoid going there when this is the case so that I'm not disappointed.
I have to say this was terrible. One waitress for three-quarters full cafe after lunch on sunday. The cheesy pasta was like eating a salt mine and it was lukewarm. I had to remind them twice about my coffee which was finally passed over the top of another table, straight into my hand without a saucer or a spoon. Totally nonplussed but at least it was cold so it didn't burn my hand !. I should point out that the two reminders happened over a period of an hour, the coffee didn't arrive until I had finished my meal. I felt really sorry for the waitress, she was clearly trying hard and suffering from having to work the entire floor by herself. I won't be back because the food was so bad and I will be telling everyone I know about their poor overworked staff.
The Turkish dip plate is beautiful and the cakes unreal. Also had the vego soup once and that was great. I like it here. UPDATE! I no longer like it here, thanks to an incredibly incompetent, rude and lazy set of staff members who need the sack right now!
Big and open, you really feel like you are in a cafe. The food is ok but nothing special, seem to remember someone having a sandwich that looked like something my 5 years old could make.
One of my regular haunts in Newtown. The food is usually great, though the quality can slip on particularly busy days and the same about the service. I tend to avoid the place when that happens so I learnt to know when to get the best from them. Particularly in love with the buckwheat pancakes, the cornbread meal and their omelettes. One of the few places where you can order All of the listed fillings instead only being allowed to choose two or three.
Great food and fast, friendly service. We've had lunch here twice and both times we were both very happy with the food and the waiters are friendly. The specials board often changes so there's always a variety of food to choose from. We'll definitely be back here soon!!
