This place is overpriced compared to its other competitors, food was normal, nothing special, food was served in different orders, as we ordered a soup and meat dish with rice, they brought a vegetable dish around the same time as bringing us dessert. Quite disappointing!
If the place is packed out, just cancel your booking and just go eat somewhere else, the service will be disappointing. understaff, and they do not respond well to enquries. Definitely a bad place to eat and enjoy yourself.
Overpriced for what it is. The decor is better than most other Vietnamese restaurants however, the quality of the food and the price are poor. The food doesn't have the same intense flavour as a few other cheaper places down the road. All in all, disappointing.
Had lunch on New Year's Day where they were dead, so service wasn't too bad. The food was ok, we particularly liked the fried squid with garlic and butter. Very similar to salt and pepper squid. All dishes came out at the same time except for one. Half an hour later, the waiter comes back and says he forgot one of our dishes, we reordered our Chinese vegetables with salty bean curd and got our dish 10 minutes later also finding out that there was no bean curd in the dish. They insisted that this was the correct thing as this is how they prepared it.
The bill came to about $90 for 6 dishes for 6 people. We paid $100 and got $20 change, whoops for them! Luckily for Bach Dang, we're honest people and returned the extra $10!
Went here last night with a party of 6 inclusive of 2 kids. Total bill for 5 entrees, 7 mains and 3 soft drinks was $112. The food was delicious and plentiful. The Charcoal Beef and Campfire Beef would be my recommendations. Amongst others I would also suggest the various Rice Paper Rolls, Garlic and Ginger Scallops and the Cripsy Skin Chicken. Can't complain about any of that!
Unfortunately, the service is terrible at best. It took a long time (in excess of 30 minutes) for us to even get our order taken. After reading previous reviews and generally knowing how Asian restaurants operate, I even went to the extent of only giving the waiter our entree selections (and the Campfire Beef as it takes some time to cook at the table) first and not ordering mains until a good 10 minutes later. This made no difference and the entrees came out intermixed with the mains.
When the "Lazy Susan" was completely chokers and they started putting food on the table proper, I had to tell them to stop bringing food out as we could not physically eat due to the lack of space. After this time the food did come out quite well but the reluctancy of the wait staff to clear the table continued our "no space" problems. The wait staff also needed to be reminded to bring out our drinks when our glasses/bottles were empty. They also forgot a main and a boiled rice, which in the end we were actually grateful for as we were all full.
It appeared to me that the lack of service is not due to any arrogance or purposeful reason, I genuinely believe that the wait staff have no idea as once they were asked they were very obliging. The wonderful fresh food and value for money did win me over in the end and I will return.
The food was great!. However, the whole service factor was absolutely shocking, and I will not be returning to this place again. I booked a table for 20 people to celebrate my birthday.
Problem 1. We all order our food at the same time, the first two dishes came out, however, we received nothing for another 30 minutes after that. 2. When the rest of the dishes came out we ordered rice to have with the meals that didn't come out with the meals. 3. I asked for a knife and fork for my western guests, they didn't understand what I was saying.
4. at the start I also ordered a steam boat to come out finally after we ate all our meals it came out, this should have been the first thing that came out as it requires some cooking time. 5. My friend had a bug in her dish, and they did nothing about it 6. One of the waiters spilled drink on one of my guests didn't even apologise, and just pretended like it didn't happen 7. Rude Waiters and finally 8. The senior staff laughed at me when I commented on the poor service I received and I said I wouldn't return.
Thats it. Good food crap service.... not ever recommending it to anyone.
The food here was exceptional. Ordered Beef Done 7 Ways, paw paw salad with pork & prawns, Salt & Pepper Crab (but they made a big mistake for bringing up a "Crab in Tamarine" instead so I said thats not "Salt & Pepper Crab", I was given rude and ridiculus reasons like "Oh no thats our style of salt & pepper crab". Theres noway in the world that a Tamarine crab is the same as salt and pepper crab!! Finally I spoke to the boss and got my salt & pepper crab. This was also overcharged, I'll explain this in the service section). All tasted nice and above average.
Ambience was average for a Western restaurant but above average for Asian restaurants.
Service was terrible. We had to ask for our teapot to be refilled which is unexceptable due to the fact that all waiters in asian must know that once the lid of a teapot is faced up, it means that you need a refill no questions asked.
When we got the bill, we were overcharged for the salt & pepper crab. Instead of charging 1.5kgs they charged us 2.2kgs!!! When asked the BOSS about this, she said "well thats because of the crab being redone for you!" I was speech less for about 5secs because #1: It was the their problem for bringing up the wrong style of crab not mine. #2 i asked for 1.5kgs AT MY TABLE so if 2,3,4 or even 5kgs comes to my table, i'm only going to pay for 1.5kgs because thats the weight i agreed with the waiter. It took a good few words to get the point through to the boss!! its not that her english is bad or anything because i'm Vietnamese myself and this was said throughout in Vietnamese so theres NO EXCUSE at all. Finally i paid bill which i agreed in the first place.
Value for a Vietnamese restaurant i'd have to rate it below average because for same amount spent here, you could get abit more at other restaurants.
Overall a good food tasting restaurant if you don't mind bad service and not too picky about being overcharged on an item that you're in the right and being acused of being in the wrong. Advice for anyone here whos thinking of having anything here sold by the weight...#1 Know how many kilograms you've asked for #2 when the item arrives at your table, get a good look at it see if its way under or over the weight asked (just incase you have to fight for it in the end like i have, thats all!! :) Happy Dining Everyone! By the way...this is my first post for eatability, i sure will be reviewing more!! :)
Wow! This place has changed. We have been going here for the last 10 years, it use to always serve honest, value for money food even if the furniture was a bit tacky, it only added to the appeal. However the last 3 times we went the prices for the mud crab were quite hefty, heftier when they charge us per crab as opposed per kg. Last time we went they charged us $150 for two crabs that weighed 1.5kg if they were lucky. I suppose someone has to pay for the renovations! We won't be going back
Went here on Christmas day for lunch with the family. This was my second visit to Bach Dang and will definitely be my last. Very unprofessional - there were 3 waiters serving a full restaurant and ten or so obviously untrained teenagers serving the food and drinks. All dishes arrived 10 minutes in between despite us wanting to eat them at the same time. After waiting more than 45 minutes for the last dish - a beef dish - we asked for the third time on its progress to find that it was still yet to be cooked. Being very angry, hungry and disgruntled we cancelled the order, asked for the bill and left, vowing never to return again!
For such a nice setting, the service was appalling. We heard other patrons being very angry with the lack of service.
I went after their recent new fitout. Although it is alot brighter and more modern, it's spoiled by the tacky furniture, excessive tablecloth and tacky 'Bach Dang' logos everywhere. Food was good but depends on what you order. Stick to the house specials. I ordered an iced coffee which came late but the waiter was a nice bloke and very sincere. Overall a decent feed.
