Meal quality falls into the just OK category but seems over-priced for what is dished up. Wines start at $37 for ordinary Australian. BYO corkage $4.90 per person which our table thought outrageous especially when not mentioned by our waitress or an obvious appearance of corkage charge on menu. Service decidedly unfriendly. This establishment seems more interested in the bottom line than food or customers.
At $45 for two courses I was not expecting fine cuisine but the food here is not edible. Not one person on our party of 20 finished more than a few mouthfuls. Avoid at all costs.
One word expensive!, I am more than happy to pay for great food/service, $13.50 for Chorizo Entree', 1 Chorizo sliced not great value, $8.50 marinated danish fetta entree' dry danish fetta in a bowl with mixed herbs sprinkled on top, steak was not great, lasagne dry and tasteless. I preferred when Niagara was there. 1/10 disappointed.
We came here on the Easter long weekend and were seated about 7 pm on a Sat without a booking and all in all it was not too bad. Service wasn't overly friendly. When making eye contact with the staff, I would naturally smile and esp the senior staff would turn away. Not a friendly response but it's ok, I was there for the food not the friendship!
We ordered the lamb souvlaki and it came out very moist and tender with no fat. Very impressed! We got the pizza with spinach, olives, fetta etc as well, it was tasty and had plenty of filling on it. It was funny the pizza wasn't a particular shape, not round not square just a strange shape which was quirky, not sure if it was intended or just lazyness on the chefs part to get a good circle but we like it haha!
Only thing is toilets are upstairs so for those who are immobile or elderly would have a bit of trouble as the stairs are steep and tall. Otherwise, price was reasonable and I would return.
Some of the comments on service are wrong. In fact, there are more than enough staff. The problem is that there doesn't appear to be any organisation. When you have to ask to see a menu and are told that they're trying to find one, there's definitely something wrong! After waiting well over an hour, we finally received our main order, followed by our entrees (which were nothing more complicated than bread). Slow food is one thing, but this was just unacceptable!. The duck pizza was good, but the Moroccan Lamb was a joke, one small cube of tasteless lamb per slice .
I went here on Anzac weekend and was amazed how poor this place is?? First of all if for some reasons after reading this review you decide to go there?? I really recommend you do not order from the main dishes especially the tortellini, as I experienced 6 small shells for the price of $27 dollars?? I was not only horrified when I received this but shocked they could palm this off as a main for $27??
The couple next to my table summed up how we all felt as I waited and waited for my bill, the same dish was being served to them and the look on there faces I will never forget, like mine shocked and disappointed. I really hope the management of this place read these reviews and take drastic actions to change the way they run their business.
I would not recommend this restaurant at all. Everyone around us seemed to have the right idea to order pizza, but we thought we would be different and order duck tortellini and rabbit.
Food. We paid $30 for 5 pieces of tortellini, this was ridiculous. My partner went home and made a sandwich. The rabbit wasn't that filling either, it tasted okay, but definitely not $30 worth.
Ambience. This restaurant is trying to sell themselves as a fancy restaurant, with expensive dishes etc, but it looks more like a diner. There are booths on the side, no tablecloths, the table wobbled, all in all it was brightly lit and looked cheap. Fine for a pizza place, but we went there looking for the tapas that they had advertised, which didn't sound at all appealing on the menu.
Service. They gave us 2 menus, and then they said they had to take one of them back, as they didn't have enough and we would have to share. It was difficult to get their attention and the food took a long time to come as well. They were busy on the night though, and it seemed short staffed (it was a long weekend).
Value. Are you kidding me? $60 later and we were still hungry!! We just didn't want to throw any more money into that place.
After the four restaurants we went to on Katoomba street were full and had a line of people trailing outside, we remembered the tapas/woodfired place around the corner. They looked fairly busy and had one spare table, but most tables looked to be eating. One table at the front was holding menus and looking extremely irritated. We sat down, our table laid promptly. We were asked for our patience because they were extremely busy and we said that was fine.
We flagged down a waitress to take our order, I ordered the entree sized ($18) duck tortellini with rocket salad drizzled with truffle oil, my partner ordered the double ham pizza with mushrooms and walnuts and a mountain goat beer. The waitress said the pizza would take a while because they ran out of dough and had to make some more. We said that was fine.
About 20 minutes later, my tortellini arrived, the waitress saying ' We might as well serve this now since we are waiting for the pizza'. I would rather have waited for both meals to be served, especially as my dish contained THREE tortellini, a pinchful of rocket leaves and the pizza didn't arrive until 30 minutes later. I could have eaten that dish in one mouthful but thought perhaps the pizza was only running 5-10 minutes behind so waited a little.
The tortellini was so cold by the time we gave up on eating our meals together, the fresh home made pasta was undercooked (not al dente at all). It was a pleasant tasting dish but I was disappointed by the size of it to say in the least. I know it was an entree but three pieces is a joke. At least fill it with a bit more salad or serve it with bread. And it's pasta for god's sake!
The main was $27 so I'm not sure if you would consider that value for money if you only got 6. I ordered some garlic bread, which arrived 20 minutes after the pizza was delivered. The pizza was pretty good, as was the dark mountain goat beer. They ran out of the pale ale version and we were given Indian pale ale instead. We wanted to order dessert wine and dessert but by that stage it was almost 2 hours later and I was appalled by the lack of professional service for the price and szie of the meals they were offering.
We asked for the bill (twice) and after 15 minutes it came, we were charged with the $27 tortellini main instead of the $18. The table beside us were complaining loudly that they didn't receive their menus until 20 minutes. Overall, I am disappointed by this restaurant, there are cheaper places in Katoomba with the same fair service, prob not as nice food but you just feel ripped off after you have paid Sydney prices for substandard service and dining experience.
They only had two waitstaff on the floor, not enough at all and as the night was winding down, so were the staff, turning their backs to the floor as they cleaned cutlery. It's a wonder any food got out, the staff seemed scatterbrained. Would not recommend unless it's a quiet night, but who knows?
Visited on a Saturday night in a group of 6. The food was passable (wagyu beef special and roma pizza were good, canneloni and al capone pizza not so good) but the service was farcical. Despite $4.50 per person corkage (this restaurant is licenced and BYO) the first bottle of wine was dumped on the table without even being opened. This was remedied, but when we asked for the second bottle to be opened it didn't arrive until we asked again 20 mins later.
A pizza meant to have garlic topping had no garlic on it. Another pizza ordered with olives came with none. When sent back for olives to be added the kitchen staff merely shrugged. Upon sending it back a second time a small plate of cold olives was sent so the diner could add their own. This after waiting almost an hour for food.
There was of course no pepper brought to the table, no dessert or coffee offered, no soft drinks refreshed. The bill was never brought to the table so we joined a queue of similarly impatient customers waiting at the counter. The restaurant accepts no credit cards so our $180 bill was settled in cash - but neither the calculator nor printer worked making it difficult to check the bill.
The restaurant was quite full, but we left amazed that it has any customers at all. We won't be returning.
I thought the food was very nice, with good portions. Service as noted by a number of others was at best erratic. They really need more people on the floor. I think the menu is a little too extensive but considering they are advertising as Tapas it is disappointing that there is no tapas on the menu.
