Overview of Bacar
Located minutes from Parramatta, Rhodes, the Inner-West and Ryde, Bacar Restaurant offers high calibre dining in the heart of Sydney Olympic Park. It features comprehensive a la carte menus with supporting table d'hote in a contemporary feel and style.
Bacar Wine Lounge is an integral part of the Pullman experience and features an extensive menu of wines by the glass.
My partner and I went to the men’s final tennis and stayed at the Pullman with a reservation for dinner at Bacar. Unfortunately, the final was interrupted by rain so we had a dilemma to face, stay and wait for the tennis to restart or head off to dinner. We chose the latter and what a good decision that was!
From the moment you enter Bacar you see the elegant, quality decoration reflected throughout the hotel. It is becoming rare to find good service and yet this was a given at Bacar. Professional and knowledgeable while unobtrusive yet attentive, a great balance. Particular mention to Hee and Vernon.
With such a menu the decisions were difficult, 2 people and yet we would have had any of the 7 entrees! The mud crab martini veloute was presented so well, I want one of those carafes and equally as tasty. Scallops seared to perfection complimented with just the right amount of ginger seasoning.
How do you ever choose a main, you will always feel like you are missing out on one of the other dishes! Angus beef fillet cooked as ordered, sometimes hard to know if to say medium rare or medium, shows the chefs know their food. The lamb was presented well with the sweetness of the onion shells complimenting the confit of tomato.
It is becoming rarer for us to get to dessert and yet the quality of the previous courses as well as the choices won us over. Crème brulee, vanilla perfectly matched with the tartness of raspberry. Tart tartin, so easy to be average and yet flavoured so well with caramel and ice cream.
The wines by the glass allowed an unusually varied choice, certainly not your average house wines. A selection to match anything on the menu and the perfect compliment. All in all a wonderful experience of perfect service with an elegant ambience to match and superb food and wine. We look forward to returning to sample the rest of the menu!

Dear JonnyG,
Thank you for your feedback. I am delighted that you enjoyed your dining experience and I have passed on your feedback onto our Executive Chef and his team for the meal they had prepared. We look forward to welcoming you back to Bacar.
I went to Bacar for our anniversary and it was really an enjoyable experience. We had the degustation menu and the selection of dishes was well chosen from the chefs. The wait staff (sorry, forgot his name) knew each dish inside out. He explained in detailed what we were about to have.
We both enjoyed the slow roasted pork belly and the chocolate fondant. The wait staff was very apologetic when he found out our fondant had no chocolate leaking centre. But it was ok, as the chocolate fondant was worth the wait.
I do agree that the restaurant do need to have a less of a hotel lobby feel. We will definitely come back again sometime soon. Thanks you to all the staffs and chefs at Bacar for making it an enjoyable and memorable night.

I took my other half here for his 30th birthday on Sept 16th and I do not regret choosing this restaurant. Being locals there are not many choices of fine dining restaurants in Olypympic Park/Newington area. After reading the posts here, I decided to give it a shot and I have wanted to check this place out after receiving their mailouts.
My partner and I were so pleased with the food that we can't wait to go back. The slow roasted pork was just sensational it melted in my mouth. He had the scallops which he just absolutely loved. For mains I had the ocean trout, it was cooked perfectly the skin on the outside was nice and crispy and it was cooked beautifully throughout. He had the black angus beef fillet which I also tasted and flavour and texture of the meat was one of the best cooked I have tasted.
Being a mash fan we couldn't go pass without ordering potato puree, garlic butter, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We would also like to thank the wait staff, Heewon Chai and Alexandria Marceau for making our night such an enjoyable staff. The service you provided that night made our night such an enjoyable and hassle free evening.
Thank you to the chef especially as not only was your food great but it was certainly quick to come out! Nothing worse than waiting for food to come. The only thing I would suggest is probably try to make the restaurant feel less of a hotel lobby. I just missed the warmth of an intimate restaurants.
All in all we are coming back hopefully next month with a couple of friends!

We loved our degustation lunch at Bacar while back. The staff were very friendly and the food and wine very good indeed. So nice to find a top class place away from the city area, we wish them every success. And good to see their feedback to online sources such as this.
Bacar is a great place for a special occasion, highly recommended if you want to splash out a bit. Well done Bacar.

Wow, this is where you go if you want to spoil someone. Yes, it's not cheap but you get what you pay for. 5 star food and service all the way. The waiters were attentive but did not hover. The food took a while to arrive, even though there were only 7 other diners but we had some lovely wines to sip while waiting and we were also treated to some lovely warm bread and butter. Thank you to the staff of bacar restaurant for making my birthday dinner last night a memorable one!

Walking into Bacar, we were immediately greeted and taken to our table. Initial service was attentive and friendly. Sadly, as the night progressed and the restaurant got busier, the level of service declined.
My partner ordered the yellow fin tuna and asked the waitress to recommend an accompanying wine. She admitted that she did not know what would be appropriate and stood there for what seemed like more than a minute staring at us. I found it necessary to suggest that she ask someone who had better knowledge. A few minutes later, she returned with a suggestion.
The entree of twice-cooked pork belly arrived looking crisp and juicy and it didn't disappoint. I'm not sure about charging $24 for two pieces, though. My main of the Barossa roast chicken and mushrooms was well cooked, but slightly too salty. The king mushrooms had a hint of bitterness that was slightly unpleasant on the palate. My partner's tuna was cooked medium rare to perfection, but it seemed a little colder than would be expected.
The accompanying artichokes, roasted capsicum and beans with babganoush was lovely. So too, was the side order of garlic and potato puree, smooth and creamy. The aforementioned wine arrived overly chilled, making it difficult to taste, let alone bring out the flavour of the tuna.
When the waitress asked if we would like to see the dessert and tea and coffee menu, she only returned with the dessert menu. We ordered our desserts of creme brulee with raspberries and champagne sorbet, and the white chocolate cadeau with creme brulee filling with strawberry compote. When I asked what kind of teas were available, she went off to get a list saying, "I don't know all of them, but we have a lot".
The waitress did not return until after we had finished our dessert. Her comment was, "the list has gone missing, and I got side-tracked" and then added, "we have pretty much any tea you want" but did not mention any. My partner and I decided to have tea at home. The desserts themselves were very nice and full of flavour. We found the presentation of the cadeau a little reminiscent of the 80s, though.
We do not want to be nit-picky, as there were great moments of service, not just at our table: when a gentleman on the adjacent table requested barbecue sauce, there was not a hint of snobbery and a sauce boat was promptly provided. However, by the end of the night, our water glasses had not been refilled since the entree, the dessert plates of the adjacent table had not been cleared for more than 30 minutes, and although our bread plates had been cleared, the bread basket remained on our table.
For a 5-star hotel, one would assume that its restaurant would have staff with the requisite knowledge of the menu (regardless of whether it was new, as mentioned by our waitress) and would not be under-staffed on a Saturday night. Charging an additional 1.5% credit card fee seemed a bit much, considering the prices of the dishes and service.

Dear m&e,
Thank you for you constructive feedback and for sharing your dining experience at Bacar Restaurant. I will discuss this with our Director of Food & Beverage and our restaurant team. We look forward to welcoming you back again.
Service was smooth and attentive, with food beautifully presented on the plate. Quality, flavoursome and creative dishes let down only by portion size being just that bit too small. Mains would have been more balanced if served with vegies.
Response from Management:
Dear ejs,
Thank you for your post. I am delighted that you enjoyed your dining experience and I have passed on your feedback onto our Executive Chef and his team for the meal they had prepared. We look forward to welcoming you back to Bacar.
Yep, generally pretty good and would go back without an issue. Hard to argue against the well cooked food, definitely a bit of skill there, although the menu itself can read a little bit "stock standard" and little that's very inventive. But you'll have a good night.
Head waiter seems to know his stuff and the others are certainly eager. A bit more knowledge of the menu/main ingredients etc would be helpful but I wouldn't want to overstate and its pretty solid all round. Perhaps the Nathan Hindmarsh of places; not a superstar but you'll know you'll get consistently good delivery!
Ambience (and I say this as a local) isn't wonderful as its a hotel lobby, otherwise very quiet Homebush Bay but at least you can park outside! Not a lot happening around it.

Dear The Old Bugger,
Thank you for your post and for sharing your dining experience with us. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Wow! What a stunning night out. The food was sensational. Everything we were served was just so full of flavour. The wagyu steak tartar was brilliant, the lamb perfect and the dessert just finished me off.
The staff were attentive, well informed and just the right pitch of friendliness without being intrusive. Whilst it wasn't a cheap night out ($280 for two), and was about double what we would normally spend, it was great value. Well worth a try!

Fantastic food, professional service and just the warmest feeling throughout my entire meal. The food is up there I'd say with some of the best restaurants as Sydney. I had the degustation apparently from the new menu for autumn. Waiters were very knowledgeable, which is great to see in a hotel restaurant. Great value for money. I'd recommend this place to anyone and I'll definitely go back.
